Sharp TMV-MP-3 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Sharp TMV-MP-3 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Sharp or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Three servo axes turn the Sharp TMV-MP-3 from a mill with a powered table into a small CNC machine that can cut in depth under program control. Its standard equipment is a MILLPWR G2 3 axes CNC system with 3 axes ball screws and servo drives, on Sharp's 10 x 54" knee mill frame.

The third axis is short. Z travel is 5 in (127 mm), and everything about programming the machine follows from that number. A pocket, a step or a drilled pattern within a 5 in stroke runs unattended. A part with features at very different heights needs the knee cranked between operations; the knee has 15.3 in (388.62 mm) of travel but is not one of the servo axes.

In plan the machine covers 31 in (787 mm) by 15.5 in (393 mm). The ram slides 18.5 in (470 mm), which moves the spindle center between 9.8 - 28.3 in (250 - 720 mm) from the column, and the head tilts 90° to either side.

Sharp's bullet list gives the spindle as R-8 with a 3 HP vari speed drive, and the table lists 3 hp (2.25 kW) at 60 - 4500 rpm. The taper row of the specification table is filled in differently in its two columns, so confirm the taper when ordering tooling. The machine weighs 3500 lb (1587 kg) and stands in a space of 7.08 x 6.66 x 7.5 ft (2.15 x 2.02 x 2.28 m).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Three CNC axes with ball screws and servo drives
  • Programmed depth control over a 5 in (127 mm) Z stroke
  • Ram travel of 18.5 in (470 mm) for reach over large parts
  • G code and conversational type programming at the control
  • Footprint of 7.08 x 6.66 x 7.5 ft (2.15 x 2.02 x 2.28 m)

Limitations

  • Only 5 in (127 mm) of programmable Z travel
  • Knee travel of 15.3 in (388.62 mm) is set by hand unless the power knee option is added
  • Spindle taper row is not consistent in Sharp's table
  • Coolant system with chip pan is an optional accessory

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How much Z travel does the TMV-MP-3 have under CNC?

5 in (127 mm). Sharp's table lists it as quill travel, Z vertical. The knee adds 15.3 in (388.62 mm) of vertical adjustment for setting the work height, and a power knee is on the optional accessory list.

02 What control runs the TMV-MP-3?

An Acu-Rite MILLPWR G2. Sharp states that it has G code and conversational type programming, and the standard accessory list includes the 3 axes CNC system, 3 axes ball screws and servo drives, an auto lube system and a 3 axes digital readout system.

03 Is the TMV-MP-3 an R-8 machine?

Sharp's overview bullet says vari speed 3 HP, R-8 spindle. The specification table prints two different tapers in the inch and metric columns of the taper row, so this page does not carry that row. Ask Sharp to confirm before buying holders.

04 How does the TMV-MP-3 compare with the TMV-1-MP-3?

Both have three CNC axes and the same travels. The TMV-1-MP-3 has an NT-40 spindle with a 5 hp (3.72 kW) motor and weighs 3750 lb (1701 kg); the TMV-MP-3 is listed with 3 hp (2.25 kW) and 3500 lb (1587 kg).
