Sharp KMA-2-CNC — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Sharp KMA-2-CNC that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Sharp or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Take the table of the smallest KMA bed mill and put it on a bigger base: that is the Sharp KMA-2-CNC. The table is still 74.8 x 19.7 in (1900 x 500 mm), but travel grows to 59 in (1500 mm) in X, 26 in (660 mm) in Y and 23.6 in (600 mm) in Z, and the load rating rises to 4,400 lb (2,000 kg).

The larger casting shows up in three rows. Spindle center to column is 26.7 in (678 mm), so a wide plate can sit further under the spindle. Cutting height is 27.5 in (700 mm) with the spindle nose 5.9-29.5 in (150-750 mm) above the table, which leaves room for a tall fixture or an indexer. And net weight is 15,400 lb (6985 kg).

What has not changed is the cutting end. The KMA-2-CNC uses a No. 50 taper spindle, 18 geared speeds from 45 rpm to 1,500 rpm and a 10 hp (7.45 kW) motor, exactly as the KMA-1-CNC does. Axis motors are 3.3 hp (2.46 kW), and feeds reach 236 ipm.

There is no automatic tool changer. Sharp fits a power drawbar, an electro magnetic spindle brake and pneumatic locks on the table and saddle as standard, and offers linear scales on three axes and a table chip guard as options.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 59 x 26 x 23.6 in travels on a 15,400 lb (6985 kg) machine
  • 4,400 lb (2,000 kg) table load
  • 27.5 in (700 mm) cutting height for tall setups
  • Spindle center to column of 26.7 in (678 mm)
  • Linear scales on three axes available as an option

Limitations

  • Table is no larger than on the KMA-1-CNC: 74.8 x 19.7 in (1900 x 500 mm)
  • Spindle motor stays at 10 hp (7.45 kW)
  • No automatic tool change: tools are swapped by hand with the power drawbar
  • Floor space of 177.2 x 148.8 in (4500 x 3780 mm) and 124.4 in (3160 mm) of height

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does the KMA-2-CNC add over the KMA-1-CNC?

Travel and capacity. The KMA-1-CNC travels 51.2 in (1300 mm), 22 in (558 mm) and 21.6 in (548 mm) and carries 3,500 lb (1587 kg). The KMA-2-CNC travels 59 in (1500 mm), 26 in (660 mm) and 23.6 in (600 mm) and carries 4,400 lb (2,000 kg). Table size, spindle and motors are the same.

02 How much room is there under the spindle of the KMA-2-CNC?

Sharp lists the spindle nose to table top distance as 5.9-29.5 in (150-750 mm) and the cutting height as 27.5 in (700 mm). Z travel of the spindle head is 23.6 in (600 mm).

03 Is the KMA-2-CNC suitable for high-speed machining?

Not in standard form. The gearhead tops out at 1,500 rpm and both rapid traverse and feed are listed at up to 236 ipm. A 4,600 rpm variable speed head in lieu of the 1,500 rpm one is an optional accessory, but the machine is built around low-speed torque on a No. 50 taper.

04 What control does the KMA-2-CNC use?

A Fanuc OiMF control with AC servo drives and a 3-axis electronic handwheel (MPG), according to Sharp's feature list. The X, Y and Z axis motors are rated 3.3 hp (2.46 kW) and total power consumption is 25 kVA.
