Overview

The ROMI C 1100H opens Romi's heavy-duty lathe range. It swings 1,110 mm (44 in) over the bed, carries 15,000 kg (33,100 lbs) between centers and has an A2-20” spindle with a 375 mm (14.8 in) thru-hole, the widest hole in the range apart from the Big Bore model.

Six bed lengths are listed, from 2.0 m (79 in) to 9.5 m (374 in) between centers, and the Z rapid depends on which one is ordered: 8 m/min (315 in/min) on the 2.0 to 3.5 m beds, 5 m/min (197 in/min) at 5 m and 10 m/min (394 in/min) from 6.5 to 9.5 m. The shortest machine weighs about 18,000 kg (39,700 lbs) and stands on 6.87 x 4.87 m (270 x 192 in).

Power comes from a 79 hp / 58 kW motor through a geared headstock with two ranges. Range I covers 1 to 143 rpm, range II runs to 500 rpm, and the maximum torque allowed is 13,613 Nm. The spindle sits in Timken bearings with a front bearing bore of 431.8 mm (17 in).

Compared with the larger H models this one is simpler around the tailstock, which is dragged by the saddle and has a 200 mm (7.9 in) quill. Swing over the cross slide is 720 mm (28 in) and cross travel 600 mm (24 in). Coolant is supplied by a choice of 2 bar or 7 bar pumps, an 8-station VDI-50 turret for driven tools is offered, and the control is a Siemens Sinumerik 840D on a pivoted panel.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How heavy a workpiece can the ROMI C 1100H hold?

The maximum weight between centers is 15,000 kg (33,100 lbs) at 50 rpm with the ASA A2-20” spindle. Romi notes that other weights, lengths, powers and speeds can be offered on request. Swing over the bed is 1,110 mm (44 in) and over the cross slide 720 mm (28 in).

02 What bed lengths does the C 1100H come in?

Distance between centers is 2.0 / 3.5 / 5.0 / 6.5 / 8.0 / 9.5 m (79 / 138 / 197 / 256 / 315 / 374 in). Longitudinal travel runs from 2,140 mm (84 in) on the shortest bed to 9,765 mm (384 in) on the longest.

03 What are the spindle figures of the C 1100H?

An ASA A2-20” nose with a 375 mm (14.8 in) thru-hole, a speed range of 1 to 500 rpm in two gear ranges (range I is 1 to 143 rpm) and a maximum torque allowed of 13,613 Nm. The main motor is rated 79 hp / 58 kW on the S2 - 30 min. rating.

04 How does the C 1100H differ from the C 1290H?

They share the headstock, bed, motor and tailstock. The C 1290H has higher centers, so it swings 1,330 mm (52 in) over the bed and 950 mm (37 in) over the cross slide, but it is listed in two bed lengths only. The C 1100H offers six.
