Overview

With 1,500 mm (59.05 in) between centers and 570 mm (22.44 in) of swing over the bed, the ROMI C 570 is the middle model of the New Generation C Series and the one aimed at longer shafts. Its bed is 380 mm (14.96 in) wide, the same width as the bed of the larger C 670, while the C 470 below it sits on a 305 mm (12 in) bed.

The main motor is rated 15 hp / 11 kW. What that power turns into depends on the headstock. With the A2-6” nose the spindle reaches 3,000 rpm, has a 65 mm (2.56 in) bore and delivers 330 Nm (243 lb-ft). With the A2-8” nose the top speed falls to 2,200 rpm, the bore grows to 80 mm (3.15 in) and torque rises to 447 Nm (330 lb-ft). Even the lighter of the two gives roughly twice the torque of the C 470 with the same A2-6” nose, which lists 157 Nm (116 lb-ft).

A shaft can be 255 mm (10.04 in) in diameter over the cross slide and 510 mm (20 in) over the saddle wings. Travels are 280 mm (11.02 in) in X and 1,555 mm (61.22 in) in Z. The tailstock quill is 80 mm (3.15 in) in diameter with 130 mm (5.12 in) of stroke, and Romi lists a follow rest and open or closed steady rests for slender work.

Unlike the C 470, this lathe has no turret in its standard equipment. The 8-station horizontal automatic turret, with Romi or VDI-30 tool fixing, is an option, as are the rear tool holder and the 3-holder quick-change post. Budget for the tooling arrangement when comparing quotations. Control is the Siemens Sinumerik 828D, and the footprint is 3.65 m (143.7 in) x 1.49 m (58.66 in).

Limitations

  • No automatic turret in the standard equipment; the 8-station horizontal turret is an option
  • The catalogue lists no driven-tool turret for the C 570, although it does for the C 470 and C 670
  • Top speed with the large-bore A2-8” headstock is 2,200 rpm
  • Tailstock positioning and quill are manual unless the drag device and hydraulic quill are ordered

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the ROMI C 570 differ from the C 470?

It is longer and stronger. Against the C 470 it has 1,500 mm (59.05 in) between centers instead of 1,000 mm (39.37 in), 570 mm (22.44 in) of swing over the bed instead of 470 mm (18.50 in), and a 15 hp / 11 kW motor instead of 12.5 hp / 9 kW. The C 470 includes an 8-position turret as standard; on the C 570 it is optional.

02 What spindle options does the C 570 have?

Two. The A2-6” headstock runs from 3 to 3,000 rpm with a 65 mm (2.56 in) bore and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft). The A2-8” headstock runs from 2 to 2,200 rpm with an 80 mm (3.15 in) bore and 447 Nm (330 lb-ft). Romi describes the transmission as direct drive through pulleys and a micro-V belt.

03 What tooling can be fitted to the C 570?

Romi lists a rear tool holder, a 3-face quick-change tool holder and an 8-station horizontal automatic turret, all optional. The turret takes 25 x 25 mm (0.98 x 0.98 in) square shanks and Ø 32 mm (Ø 1.26 in) round tools, with Romi or VDI-30 fixing.

04 Can the C 570 support long shafts?

Yes. The tailstock has an 80 mm (3.15 in) quill with 130 mm (5.12 in) of stroke and a CM 4 taper, and Romi lists a closed steady rest for Ø8 to Ø152, an open steady rest and a follow rest for Ø15 to Ø80 as options. A hydraulic quill is optional.
