Overview

The Pinnacle SV85 is a box-way vertical machining center in the 850 mm class: 850 mm (33.5 in) of X travel and 560 mm (22.0 in) in both Y and Z. It is the hardened-slideway counterpart of the linear-way LV85, built for cutting load before traverse speed.

Pinnacle states that the way surfaces on all three axes are hardened to over HRC55 to a depth of over 2 mm. Sliding ways carry more contact area than rolling guides, which helps when an ISO40 spindle is pushed in steel. The trade shows in the rapids, 24 / 24 / 24 m/min in the table. The feature list on the same page prints 20/20/20 m/min, so the figure is worth confirming.

The spindle rows mirror the small LV machines: a 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) motor, 60 ~ 8,000(10,000/12,000) rpm with belt drive, and a gear head listed as L40 ~ 2000, H2001 ~ 8000 rpm. For box-way work the gear head is the one to look at, because the low range keeps the motor in its power band at face-mill speeds.

The 1,000 x 510 mm (39.4 x 20.1 in) table carries 600 kg (1,323 lb), and the disk magazine holds 24 tools up to Ø90 mm (Ø3.5 in), 250 mm (9.8 in) and 8 kg (18 lb). Machine weight is 5,600 kg (12,346 lb) with a 20 kVA supply.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Is the Pinnacle SV85 a box-way machine?

Yes. Pinnacle lists box ways on the X, Y and Z axes, with way surfaces hardened to over HRC55 and over 2 mm deep. Ball screws on this size are 36mm in diameter and class C3.

02 What is the difference between the SV85 and the LV85?

The guideways. Travels, table size, the ISO40 spindle and the 5.5 / 7.5 kW motor are the same in both tables. The SV85 runs on box ways at 24 / 24 / 24 m/min; the LV85 runs on linear guideways at 36 / 36 / 24 m/min and weighs 5,500 kg (12,125 lb) against 5,600 kg (12,346 lb).

03 What is the table capacity of the SV85?

The table is 1,000 x 510 mm (39.4 x 20.1 in) with a maximum load of 600 kg (1,323 lb). Spindle nose to table distance is 100 ~ 660 mm (3.9 ~ 26.0 in) and T-slots are listed as 18 x 100 x 5.

04 Which controls are listed for the SV85?

FANUC 0i-MF / 31i-MB, HEIDENHAIN TNC620 / TNC640, SIEMENS 828D / 840D and FAGOR 8055i Plus / 8060FL / 8060 appear on the page. Servo motors differ by control maker.
