How much does the DATRON MLCube cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the DATRON MLCube that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
With 1,520 mm (59.8 in) of X travel and 1,150 mm (45.3 in) of Y, the DATRON MLCube is the long-travel counterpart of the M8Cube: a 3-axis portal machine whose work envelope is 1,500 mm x 1,000 mm x 200 mm (59.1 in x 39.4 in x 7.9 in). Z travel is 245 mm (9.6 in), and the 200 mm in the envelope is the portal passage. That is room for one large plate, or for a row of fixtures machined in a single cycle, provided nothing stands taller than the passage.
The spindle options match the M8Cube. Both machines list an HF spindle of 1.8 kW to 4.0 kW (2.4 hp to 5.4 hp) with a top speed of 60,000 rpm and a choice of direct shank or HSK-E 25. What changes is the size around that spindle. The M8Cube travels 1,020 mm (40.2 in) in X and 830 mm (32.7 in) in Y and weighs approximately 1,300 kg (2,866 lb); the MLCube weighs approximately 2,500 kg (5,512 lb). Feed stays at up to 22 m/min (866 ipm), so crossing the longer table takes proportionally more time.
Tool changing follows the same menu with one difference to check. The integrated changer holds 5, 12 or 15 stations, or 10, 24 or 30 as an option, but the integrated length sensor is listed as optional on this model. The DATRON ToolAssist with 60 or 143 stations is the other choice and uses HSK-E 25.
The MLCube Pro shares these travels and narrows the choices: HSK-E 25 only, the ToolAssist as its tool system, a 3.0 kW to 4.0 kW (4.0 hp to 5.4 hp) spindle and 40,000 rpm. Anyone who wants direct-shank tooling, the 60,000 rpm top speed or a small integrated changer on this table size will find them listed for the MLCube.
A fourth axis is available as the optional DATRON Axis4 for 3+1 work; no 3+2 option is listed for this model. The DATRON 3D probe is optional too. Allow 3,100 mm x 2,280 mm x 1,970 mm (122.0 in x 89.8 in x 77.6 in) with the operating terminal, or 2,420 mm x 2,280 mm x 1,970 mm (95.3 in x 89.8 in x 77.6 in) without it.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Work envelope of 1,500 mm x 1,000 mm x 200 mm (59.1 in x 39.4 in x 7.9 in) for large plates or several fixtures in one setup
- Keeps the 60,000 rpm top speed and the 1.8 kW to 4.0 kW (2.4 hp to 5.4 hp) spindle range of the smaller M8Cube
- Choice of direct shank or HSK-E 25, which the MLCube Pro narrows to HSK-E 25 only
- Tool systems from a 5-station integrated changer to the DATRON ToolAssist with 60 or 143 stations
- Mineral-cast bed with an integrated conical thread, available as a full or cut-out table
Limitations
- Only 200 mm (7.9 in) of portal passage over a 1,500 mm x 1,000 mm (59.1 in x 39.4 in) area: this is a machine for flat work
- The integrated tool length sensor is an option here, while the M8Cube lists it with the integrated changer
- Feed is up to 22 m/min (866 ipm) despite the long travels, well below the MLmax Pro at up to 50 m/min (1,969 ipm)
- Rotary work is limited to 3+1 with the optional DATRON Axis4; the table lists no 3+2 option
- At most 4.0 kW (5.4 hp) at the spindle, so stock removal on a large plate relies on small tools and light passes

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Mainly in size. The MLCube travels 1,520 mm (59.8 in) in X and 1,150 mm (45.3 in) in Y; the M8Cube travels 1,020 mm (40.2 in) and 830 mm (32.7 in). Z travel is 245 mm (9.6 in) on both. Spindle range, top speed and tool interfaces are listed identically. The MLCube weighs approximately 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) against approximately 1,300 kg (2,866 lb) for the M8Cube, lists the integrated length sensor as optional, and offers DATRON Axis4 without an Axis5 option.
02
Travels and work envelope are the same. The MLCube Pro is listed with a 3.0 kW to 4.0 kW (4.0 hp to 5.4 hp) spindle at up to 40,000 rpm, HSK-E 25 only, and the DATRON ToolAssist with 60 or 143 stations as its tool system. The MLCube adds lower-power spindles from 1.8 kW (2.4 hp), a 60,000 rpm top speed, direct-shank tooling and integrated changers from 5 stations. The MLCube Pro is also heavier at approximately 3,200 kg (7,055 lb).
03
The work envelope gives 200 mm (7.9 in) in Z, which DATRON defines as the portal passage: the clearance under the portal. Part and fixture together must pass under that. Z travel itself is 245 mm (9.6 in), and the tool has to retract clear of the work within it, so check the stack-up for anything other than plate and shallow parts.
04
The integrated changer is listed with 5, 12 or 15 stations, or optionally 10, 24 or 30. An integrated tool length sensor is optional. Alternatively the DATRON ToolAssist holds 60 or 143 stations and works with HSK-E 25, so choosing it also settles the tool interface.
05
Minimum-quantity cooling lubrication, applied through a 4-nozzle spray ring. The reservoir is one 10-liter tank or two of them. No flood coolant system appears in the table, which matters if your process or material depends on flooding the cut.
