Overview
The Palmary OCD-3240P is the 400 mm (15.7 in) model of Palmary's CNC plunge grinders with angular wheelhead, and the one featured in the series video. It swings Ø320 mm (12.6 in) over the table and grinds diameters to Ø300 mm (11.8 in).
Set beside the standard OCD-3240 the differences are few but telling. The P machine takes a wheel of Ø455 to 510 mm, up to 80 mm wide, where the OCD-3240 takes Ø405 mm and up to 75 mm. Its table stroke is 818 mm (32.2 in) where the OCD-3240 has 665 mm (26.2 in). And it is heavier, 4,250 kg (9,369 lb) against 3,300 kg (7,275 lb) for the OCD-3240. More wheel, more stroke, more iron: the recipe for plunge work, where the whole wheel face cuts at once.
Grinding power is 5.5 kW (7.4 hp). That is the same as the standard machine, so a full 80 mm plunge on tough material will be feed-limited by the motor rather than by the structure. The workhead motor is 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) with a range of 10 to 300 rpm.
The table swivels 0° to 10° and the workhead from -30° to +90°. Centers are No. 4 Morse taper and carry 150 kg (331 lb). The X axis has 260 mm (10.2 in) of stroke and a linear scale. FANUC control and full enclosure are standard; power is 18 kVA.
