Drake GS:TI400 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Drake GS:TI400 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Drake or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Drake GS:TI400 is the middle machine of Drake's three 4-axis internal thread grinders. Swing over the table is 400 mm (15.7 in), and the maximum internal grind length is 190 mm (7.5 in).

Swing is what separates the three. On an internal grinder it is the room for the part plus the chuck or fixture that holds it, not the size of the thread. The GS:TI280 allows 280 mm (11.0 in). The GS:TI670 allows 670 mm (26.4 in). The GS:TI400 sits between them for nuts with large flanges or parts held in a fixture body.

Each step in swing changes two other figures in Drake's table, and nothing else. This machine weighs 6,850 kg (15,101 lb) and holds the work 1.2 m (47.2 in) above the floor. Footprint stays at 2.2 m W x 2.7 m D (86.6 in x 106.3 in), the workhead nose stays at A2-8, and the electrical requirement stays at 30-45 kVA.

The grinding hardware is common to the range: wheels of ≤100 mm (3.9 in) outside diameter, 5-20 mm (0.2-0.8 in) wide, with spindle power and speed chosen for the application. Workhead speed is up to 300 rpm continuous and rapid return is up to 40 m/min (1,575 ipm). Drake builds the machine on a cast polymer base with linear motors and linear roller ways, and supplies it programmed with a grinding process for the customer's parts.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 400 mm (15.7 in) of swing for flanged nuts and fixture-held parts
  • Same 2.2 m W x 2.7 m D (86.6 in x 106.3 in) footprint as the smaller GS:TI280
  • A2-8 workhead spindle nose
  • Cast polymer base with linear motors and linear roller ways
  • Closed-loop precision feedback is on the standard list

Limitations

  • Internal grind length is limited to 190 mm (7.5 in), as on the rest of the range
  • Standard wheels are limited to ≤100 mm (3.9 in) outside diameter
  • Wheel spindle power and speed are listed only as various
  • Lead and lead angle are listed as various, with no figure

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the swing of the GS:TI400?

Maximum swing over the table is 400 mm (15.7 in). The maximum internal grind length is 190 mm (7.5 in). Swing limits the outside of the part and its workholding; the thread diameters that can be ground depend on the wheel and spindle Drake specifies.

02 Which GS:TI machine should I choose?

Choose by the largest part and fixture you need to swing. The GS:TI280 allows 280 mm (11.0 in), the GS:TI400 allows 400 mm (15.7 in) and the GS:TI670 allows 670 mm (26.4 in). Grind length, wheel range, workhead nose and footprint are identical across the three.

03 What wheel range does the GS:TI400 use?

Standard wheels are ≤100 mm (3.9 in) in outside diameter and 5-20 mm (0.2-0.8 in) wide, with the bore listed as various. Dresser rolls are 115-152 mm (4.5-6.0 in) in diameter and up to 32 mm (1.3 in) wide.

04 Can the GS:TI400 be automated?

Drake lists automation as an upgrade for its internal thread grinders and says it offers automation options specific to the application. A part probe is also an upgrade. Neither is described in detail in the brochure, so the scope comes from Drake's proposal.

05 What are the weight and supply figures?

The machine weighs 6,850 kg (15,101 lb) and measures 2.2 m W x 2.7 m D (86.6 in x 106.3 in). Workholding height is 1.2 m (47.2 in) above the floor. Supply is 200-600 V at 30-45 kVA.
