Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Vollmer CHX 840 / CHX 1300 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Vollmer CHX 840 / CHX 1300 grinds the tooth face and the tooth top of a carbide-tipped circular saw blade in one set-up. That is its whole argument. A double grinding wheel and an automatic A1 axis turn the wheel from one surface to the other, so the blade is clamped once and comes off finished on both.
It has five CNC-controlled axes (A1, B1, Z1, X1, V1), one more than the CHC and CHP machines beside it in the range. The wheel set is listed as 125 / 175 mm (4.9 / 6.9 in) and the grinding spindle as 1.1 kW (1.5 hp) with variable peripheral speed. Clearance angle runs from +6° to 45°. Hook angle goes to +40° and, with an option, down to -30°. Software for negative faces and chip breakers is optional here.
Set-up can be automated in steps. The automatic set-up procedure consists of saw insertion, diameter recognition and an acoustic sensor for sensing the wheel against the tooth. Beyond that, the CHX 840 can be combined with the HS loader, which stacks up to 25 saws to a height of 180 mm. The loader has limits of its own: saws of 140–530 mm in two working ranges and bores of up to 80 mm. Large sawmill blades still go in by hand.
A relief grinding path of up to 50 mm (2.0 in) lets the steel body behind the tip be ground back in a separate program. Frames are the CHX 840 for 80 to 840 mm (3.1 to 33.1 in) and the CHX 1300 for 80 to 1,300 mm (3.1 to 51.2 in), at approx. 1,765 kg (3,891 lb) and approx. 1,955 kg (4,310 lb). The coolant tank holds approx. 150 l.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Tooth face and tooth top are machined in one set-up with the double grinding wheel and automatic A1 axis
- Five CNC-controlled axes (A1, B1, Z1, X1, V1)
- Automatic set-up with saw insertion, diameter recognition and acoustic sensing
- Optional HS loader on the CHX 840 feeds a stack of up to 25 saws for unmanned running
- Relief grinding path of up to 50 mm (2.0 in) for cutting back the body behind the tip
Limitations
- The -30° end of the hook angle range is an option, as is the bevel on the negative tooth face
- Software for negative tooth face geometries and chip breaker machining is optional, where the CHP 840 / CHP 1300 includes it
- The HS loader only takes saws of 140–530 mm with bores of up to 80 mm

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It machines tooth faces and tooth tops in a single set-up. Vollmer does this with a double grinding wheel and an automatically controlled A1 axis, giving five CNC axes in total. The CHC and CHP machines have four axes and adjust the hook and clearance angle by motor between face and top grinding.
02
The HS workpiece loading device is offered for the CHX 840. It loads circular saw blades automatically from a stack up to 180 mm high, for up to 25 saws, with intermediate layers to protect the cutting edges. It suits saws with a diameter of 140–530 mm in two working ranges (140–370 mm or 300–530 mm) and bore diameters of up to 80 mm.
03
Hook angle up to +40° and down to -30° with an option. Clearance angle from +6° to 45°. Bevel grinding up to 45° on the tooth top, up to 15° on the positive tooth face (20° for a hook angle of ≥ -5°) and, optionally, up to 15° on the negative tooth face. Hollow face hook angles from -10° to +30° are optional too.
04
The CHX 840 covers 80 to 840 mm (3.1 to 33.1 in) with a workpiece weight of max. 30 kg (66 lb) and is the frame that can take the HS loader. The CHX 1300 covers 80 to 1,300 mm (3.1 to 51.2 in) with max. 80 kg (176 lb). Machine weights are approx. 1,765 kg (3,891 lb) and approx. 1,955 kg (4,310 lb).
05
Vollmer lists a network connection for data protection and the acquisition of machine and production data, a USB connection for data transfer, and a Windows-based interface with a 10-inch LCD colour display that is prepared for remote service.
