Niigata HN50E — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Niigata HN50E that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Niigata or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Niigata HN50E is the entry point to the HN series of column-traverse horizontal machining centers: a 500 mm × 500 mm pallet under a BT50 spindle that delivers 901 N·m (665 lb-ft). Few machines of this pallet size are specified that way. The travels are 800 mm in X, 700 mm in Y and 580 mm in Z, and the largest part is φ800 mm × 800 mm at up to 800 kg (1,764 lb).

Everything about the design favours cutting force over speed. The guideways are square box slides, induction hardened and ground, with mating surfaces scraped by hand. Niigata says it increased the thickness of the base for stability and damping. Rapid traverse is 30 m/min (1,181 ipm), about half of what the maker's roller-guide N600 achieves on the same pallet, and the top spindle speed is 6,000 min-1.

Three spindles are listed. The standard unit gives 901 N·m with a 26 kW (34.9 hp) motor. A high-speed option runs to 12,000 min-1 with 420 N·m and 30 kW, for shops that also cut aluminium or use small tools. A high-rigidity option keeps the 901 N·m and 26 kW figures but limits speed to 3,500 min-1 and uses cylindrical roller bearings, which is the choice for sustained heavy roughing.

The pallet indexes in 1° steps as standard; a 0.001° table is an option, so decide early whether the work needs continuous B-axis positioning. The magazine starts at 62 tools. Expandable chain magazines of 88, 128, 175 and 255 tools and matrix magazines of 126, 178 and 230 tools are listed as options.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 901 N·m (665 lb-ft) BT50 spindle on a 500 mm × 500 mm pallet
  • Hardened, ground and hand-scraped square slideways with a thickened base for damping
  • Choice of three spindles: 6,000 min-1 standard, 12,000 min-1 high-speed or 3,500 min-1 high-rigidity
  • Magazine expandable from 62 tools up to 255 tools (chain type) or 230 tools (matrix type)
  • Carries 800 kg (1,764 lb), with a φ800 mm × 800 mm workpiece

Limitations

  • Z travel is only 580 mm, short for long boring bars or deep parts
  • 30 m/min rapids are slow next to the 60 m/min of the N600
  • 0.001° indexing is an option; the standard table indexes in 1° steps
  • The 12,000 min-1 option drops torque from 901 N·m to 420 N·m
06

Best For

Titanium, Inconel and hardened-steel parts within φ800 mm × 800 mm Heavy roughing with large 50-taper cutters on small castings and forgings Valve bodies and pump housings that need torque rather than speed Long unattended runs with a 255-tool chain magazine

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How much torque does the Niigata HN50E spindle produce?

The standard 6,000 min-1 spindle is rated at 901 N·m (665 lb-ft) with a 26 kW motor. The optional high-rigidity spindle has the same torque at a top speed of 3,500 min-1, and the optional high-speed spindle gives 420 N·m at up to 12,000 min-1 with a 30 kW motor.

02 What is the work envelope of the HN50E?

X travel (table left/right) is 800 mm, Y (spindle up/down) is 700 mm and Z (column front/back) is 580 mm. The pallet measures 500 mm × 500 mm and the maximum workpiece is φ800 mm × 800 mm, with a pallet load of 800 kg (1,764 lb).

03 Does the HN50E have a full fourth axis?

Not as standard. The table lists a 1° indexing angle, with 0.001° in brackets as an option. Parts that need angles between whole degrees, or contouring on the rotary axis, require the optional table.

04 How does the HN50E differ from the HN63E?

The spindle choices are the same on both. The HN63E has a 630 mm × 630 mm pallet, travels of 1,080 mm, 930 mm and 830 mm, a φ1,080 mm × 1,000 mm workpiece and 1,200 kg of load. Niigata also notes the monster column and a Z-axis load reduction device specifically for the HN63E.
