Overview

The Niigata HN1000-S BAR is a 1,000 mm pallet bar-spindle horizontal machining center that moves at 41 m/min (1,614 ipm). Boring machines of this size are rarely quick between cuts; this one borrows the hybrid guide layout of the HN-S series to change that, while its quill reaches 555 mm (21.9 in) into the part.

The bar spindle is standard equipment here. Niigata gives its diameter as φ130mm and describes a spindle core cooling function that limits thermal displacement. The table lists 3,500 min-1 and 1,836 N·m (1,354 lb-ft) with a BT50 shank. Two APCs are standard, and multi-pallet APCs and FMS connections are offered as options for unmanned running.

Roller guides carry X and Z. The Y axis, which guides the spindle head between the two sides of a double column, keeps a square sliding way for rigidity and tool life. Niigata points out that because the column itself feeds in Z, without an overhanging saddle, the quill does not need to be extended far for most work, and stiffness stays high.

Travels are 2,030 mm in X, 1,500 mm (59.1 in) in Y and 1,200 mm in Z; the workpiece is φ2,300 mm × 1,850 mm. The pallet takes 3,500 kg (7,716 lb), or 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) as an option. A tightly sealed splash guard is standard so that high-pressure coolant stays in the machine. Indexing is 1° with a 0.001° option, and the magazine starts at 62 tools.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 41 m/min (1,614 ipm) rapids on a bar-spindle machine with a 1,000 mm pallet
  • φ130mm BAR spindle with a 555 mm (21.9 in) stroke as standard
  • 1,836 N·m (1,354 lb-ft) of spindle torque
  • Two APCs standard, with multi-pallet and FMS options
  • Sealed splash guard for high-pressure coolant

Limitations

  • Y travel is 1,500 mm, against 1,650 mm on the HN1000-S without the bar spindle
  • Spindle speed is limited to 3,500 min-1
  • Quill rapid traverse is 5 m/min
  • 5,000 kg load and 0.001° indexing are options

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What makes the Niigata HN1000-S BAR faster than other bar machines?

Its hybrid guide structure. The X and Z axes run on high-rigidity roller guides and the Y axis on a square sliding way. The table gives a rapid traverse of 41 m/min for X, Y and Z, with 5 m/min for the W axis.

02 What are the bar spindle specifications of the HN1000-S BAR?

Niigata describes a BAR spindle of φ130mm diameter with a 555 mm stroke and a core cooling function. Spindle speed is 3,500 min-1, maximum torque is 1,836 N·m (1,354 lb-ft) and the tool shank is BT50.

03 Is automation available for the HN1000-S BAR?

Yes. Niigata states that two APCs are included as standard equipment, and that optional multi-plane APCs, FMSs and other unmanned systems are available.

04 What is the capacity of the HN1000-S BAR?

The 1,000 mm × 1,000 mm pallet carries 3,500 kg (7,716 lb), or 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) as an option. The workpiece may be up to φ2,300 mm × 1,850 mm. Travels are 2,030 mm, 1,500 mm and 1,200 mm in X, Y and Z.
