Overview
The Nexturn SA32XIII is a three-path Swiss-type automatic lathe for 32 mm (1.3 in) bar. Eleven axes run under a FANUC 31i-B, two opposing gang slides work on the main spindle at once, and a third path serves the sub spindle. Turning length is 270 mm (10.6 in).
Three paths change how a cycle is built. On a two-path machine one tool cuts at the guide bush while the back-end station works on the previous part. Here two tools can cut at the main spindle simultaneously, from opposite sides, while the back end is machined as well. The brochure's own examples are balance turning, simultaneous cross drilling and milling, and simultaneous turning with front centre drilling, each combined with back tool machining. Each gang slide has its own X, Z and Y axes, which is why the axis list runs X1, Z1, Y1, X2, Z2, Y2, X3, Z3, Y3 plus two C axes.
Nexturn's table splits the main-side tools by channel. Channel 1 carries five OD tools and four cross live tools. Channel 2 carries two OD tools, a four-spindle modular cross unit and four ID tools. Both channels use □16 × 120 mm (0.6 × 4.7 in) shanks and drive their cross spindles at up to 6,000 rpm, with drilling to 10 mm (0.4 in) and M8. The sub spindle side adds two front-end face tools and eight back-end tools. Nexturn's headline for the model is a maximum of 29 tools, with up to 14 of them live.
Spindle ratings are 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) main and 1.5 / 2.2 kW (2.0 / 3.0 hp) sub, each to 8,000 rpm. The machine needs a 20 kVA supply, measures 2,600 × 1,400 × 1,850 mm (102.4 × 55.1 × 72.8 in) and weighs 3,700 kg (8,157 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Three-path control with opposing gang slides, so two tools can cut at the main spindle at once
- Eleven axes under a FANUC 31i-B, with a Y axis on each of the three paths
- Max. 29 tools, of which up to 14 are live
- 270 mm (10.6 in) of turning length and 8,000 rpm on both spindles
- 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) main spindle, above the 3.7 / 7.5 kW (5.0 / 10.1 hp) of the SA32XII
Limitations
- Cross and back tool drives are 1.0 kW (1.3 hp), and cross drilling is limited to 10 mm (0.4 in) and M8
- Program memory is 512 Kbyte with 500 registered programs, less than the 1 Mbyte and 800 of the SA32XII
- Sub spindle motor is 1.5 / 2.2 kW (2.0 / 3.0 hp)
- Three-path programming is more demanding than a two-path Swiss lathe

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The control runs three programs side by side: one for each of the two gang slides at the main spindle and one for the back-end tools at the sub spindle. Nexturn's examples include balance turning with back tool machining and simultaneous cross drilling and milling.
02
Nexturn states a maximum of 29 tools with up to 14 live. The table lists five OD and four cross live tools on channel 1, two OD, four modular cross and four ID tools on channel 2, two front-end face tools for the sub spindle and eight back-end face tools. The standard back-end unit is Live 2, Fixed 2, with Live 4, Fixed 4 optional.
