Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Ganesh GEN TURN SL-20Y2 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The GEN TURN SL-20Y2 is the small member of Expand Machinery's hybrid Swiss line: a 20 mm sliding-headstock machine whose rotary guide bushing can be removed, so the same machine runs long slender parts with the bushing and short parts without it. The main spindle turns at 10,000 rpm and the sub-spindle at 8,000 rpm, each on a motor rated 5 HP for 15 min and 3 HP on constant duty.
The choice between the two modes is a matter of turning length. With the synchronous rotary bushing the machine turns 7.48 in (190 mm) in a single stroke. With the bushing removed that drops to 2.36 in (60 mm), but the bar no longer has to be ground and the remnant is shorter. The bushing is a TD25S type and accepts 20 mm round, 16 mm hex or 12 mm square stock. Collets are listed as Hardinge TF-25S, Southwick & Meister TS-25 or Star SR-20.
Eight axes are listed, with a Y axis and a C axis on each side. The main tool post holds 6 turning tools of 12 mm shank, 4 internal tools and 2 deep hole drill positions in 22 mm sleeves, plus 5 ER-16 cross live tools at 8,000 rpm and 1.6 HP (1.2 kW). The sub-spindle block has 3 turning tools, 4 internal tools and 3 ER-16 axial live tools at 4,000 rpm, and can take 8 tools. Expand Machinery counts 30 tools with 8 driven as standard. Drilling capacity on center is 10 mm, with tapping to M8.
It runs on cutting oil only, from a 58 gallon (220 L) tank, and the maker fits a cutting oil chiller for thermal stability. Control is a Mitsubishi M-830. The machine weighs 5,954 lb (2,700 kg). The larger GEN TURN SL-42Y2 takes bar to 1-5/8 in (42 mm) on a 6,000 rpm spindle.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The rotary synchronous guide bushing is removable. With it, the machine works as a conventional Swiss type and turns up to 7.48 in (190 mm) in one stroke. Without it, the bar is held only by the main collet, maximum turning length is 2.36 in (60 mm), and the machine no longer needs ground bar stock.
02
Main and sub-spindle collets are listed as Hardinge TF-25S, Southwick & Meister TS-25 or Star SR-20, closed by a pneumatic toggle clamp. The synchronous rotary guide bushing is a TD25S, available for 20 mm round, 16 mm hex and 12 mm square bar.
03
Maximum distance between spindles is 23.6 in (600 mm). Back working allows a maximum turning length of 6.1 in and a maximum boring length of 3.14 in. Parts up to 110 mm long can be ejected from the front of the sub-spindle.
04
All six linear axes rapid at 944 ipm (24 m/min). Electrical supply is 220 VAC ±5%, 3-phase, 60 Hz at 53 amps, 20 kVA, and air is 85 psi at 6 cfm. The machine weighs 5,954 lb (2,700 kg).
