How much does the Nexturn SA26PII cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Nexturn SA26PII that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Nexturn SA26PII takes 26 mm (1.0 in) bar and is the size at which the P line changes from light motors to heavy ones. Its main spindle is rated 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) and its sub spindle 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp), on a seven-axis Swiss-type automatic lathe with 250 mm (9.8 in) of turning length and 20 tools.
Compare that with the SA20PII one size down, which has 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp) on the main spindle. The SA26PII's sub spindle alone matches it. Nexturn states that the sub spindle on this size and above is a built-in motor with inverter oil cooling, which it credits with keeping thermal deformation low. What the bigger motors cost is speed: both spindles are listed at 8,000 rpm.
The back end is unusually strong on the PII type. Back-end face tools are driven by a 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) motor and are listed for 12 mm (0.5 in) drilling and M10 tapping, the same limits as the main spindle and the cross unit. On the SA26PYII the back-end motor is 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) and the limit drops to 10 mm (0.4 in) and M8. So a part with a large tapped hole in its back face is the PII's kind of work, even though the PYII holds more tools.
The 20 tools are five OD tools on □16 × 120 mm (0.6 × 4.7 in) shanks, four cross live tools, five Y-axis ID tools, two fixed front-end face tools and four back-end tools. The machine weighs 3,400 kg (7,496 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) main spindle on a 26 mm (1.0 in) machine
- 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) back-end tool motor with back-end drilling to 12 mm (0.5 in) and M10
- Built-in sub spindle motor rated 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp) with inverter oil cooling
- 250 mm (9.8 in) of turning length through the synchronous rotary guide bush
- Pneumatic brakes on main and sub spindle for holding position during cross work
Limitations
- 20 tools, five fewer than the SA26PYII's 25
- The two front-end face tools for the sub spindle are both fixed; live ones need the optional front-end face revolving unit
- No Y2 axis on the seven-axis PII type
- Spindles are limited to 8,000 rpm, where the SA20PII main spindle reaches 10,000 rpm

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The main spindle motor is listed at 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) and the sub spindle at 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp). The brochure gives the pair of figures without saying which is the continuous rating. The cross drill and mill unit and the back-end face tools each have a 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) motor.
02
It depends on whether the job needs force or variety. The SA26PII drives its back-end tools with 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) and drills to 12 mm (0.5 in) there. The SA26PYII lists eight back-end tools and a Y2 axis, but with a 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) motor and a 10 mm (0.4 in) drilling limit.
03
Turning tools with □16 × 120 mm (0.6 × 4.7 in) shanks and ER16 collets for the revolving tools. Cross spindles run at up to 6,000 rpm and a cross disc mill can be 40 mm (1.6 in) in diameter. Nexturn also lists an optional modular drilling unit for angled drilling, whirling, hobbing and slotting.
04
The option list includes a back tool unit with two live and two fixed tools, the front-end face revolving unit, a polygon attachment, the Y-axis tool unit, a thread whirling device and a back-end face cross unit. The standard PII back unit is four fixed tools, and the 4 spindle cross drill unit is standard as well.
