Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Nexturn SA12B that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Nexturn SA12B is the smallest machine in the maker's B line of Swiss-type automatic lathes: 12 mm (0.5 in) bar, 160 mm (6.3 in) of turning length per chucking, and main and sub spindles that both run to 10,000 rpm. It carries 18 tools on seven controlled axes under a FANUC 0iTF control.
Speed is what separates it from its larger siblings. The SA20B and SA32B both stop at 8,000 rpm. On bar this thin the higher spindle speed is what keeps the surface speed up. Motor ratings are small to match, with 1.5 / 2.2 kW (2.0 / 3.0 hp) on the main spindle and 0.55 / 1.1 kW (0.7 / 1.5 hp) on the sub spindle, so this is a machine for pins, shafts and connector parts and not for heavy stock removal.
The 18 tools break down as five OD turning tools on □10 × 120 mm (0.4 × 4.7 in) shanks, four cross live tools, five ID tools on the Y-axis unit and four back-end positions. No front-end face tools for the sub spindle are listed, a row the SA20B and SA32B do fill. Cross tools turn at up to 6,000 rpm on a 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) motor and are limited to 7 mm (0.3 in) drills and M6 taps. Nexturn lists the standard back tool unit as four fixed tools; the Live 2, Fixed 2 arrangement shown in the table is a machine option.
It is also a compact machine. Nexturn gives 1,770 × 960 × 1,550 mm (69.7 × 37.8 × 61.0 in) and a net weight of 1,900 kg (4,189 lb), before a bar feeder is added. A rotary guide bush holder unit and a part conveyor are standard. The bar feeder itself is an option, with only its interface included.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Main and sub spindle both reach 10,000 rpm, against 8,000 rpm on the SA20B and SA32B
- Compact for a twin-spindle machine: 1,770 × 960 × 1,550 mm (69.7 × 37.8 × 61.0 in) and 1,900 kg (4,189 lb) net
- Rotary guide bush holder unit, part conveyor, 4 spindle cross drill unit and Y-axis tool unit are all on the standard list
- Cs control on main and sub spindle is standard, so both ends of the part can be indexed for cross work
- 32 m/min rapid traverse keeps non-cutting moves short on a machine with 160 mm (6.3 in) of turning length
Limitations
- Bar capacity ends at 12 mm (0.5 in); larger stock needs the SA20B
- No front-end face tools for the sub spindle are listed, a position the SA20B and SA32B both have
- Cross drilling stops at 7 mm (0.3 in) and tapping at M6
- Live back-end tools are a machine option; the standard back tool unit is four fixed tools
- The sub spindle motor is 0.55 / 1.1 kW (0.7 / 1.5 hp), so back-side cuts have to stay light

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Bar up to 12 mm (0.5 in) in diameter, with a maximum turning length of 160 mm (6.3 in). The sub spindle chucks the same 12 mm (0.5 in), so a part can be picked off at full diameter for back-end work. A rotary guide bush holder unit is part of the standard machine.
02
The SA12B is the high-speed small-bar machine: 10,000 rpm on both spindles and 18 tools. The SA20B takes 20 mm (0.8 in) bar, turns 210 mm (8.3 in) per chucking and carries 22 tools, but its spindles stop at 8,000 rpm and it weighs 2,700 kg (5,952 lb) against 1,900 kg (4,189 lb).
03
The table lists four cross live tools, driven by a 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) motor at up to 6,000 rpm and held in ER16 collets. On the back end the standard unit is four fixed tools. A back tool unit with two live and two fixed positions is a machine option, and the table's 0.5 kW (0.7 hp) back-end motor belongs to it.
04
No. The standard machine has a barfeeder interface, and the bar feeder itself is on the option list together with a chip conveyor and a long part discharging unit. A part conveyor is standard. Plan the floor space for the feeder in addition to the machine's own 1,770 × 960 × 1,550 mm (69.7 × 37.8 × 61.0 in).
05
A FANUC 0iTF with seven controlled axes, designated X1, Z1, Y1, X2, Z2, C1 and C2. The minimum input increment is 0.001 mm, the programmable feedrate range is 1~6,000 mm/min, and the control holds 64 sets of tool offsets and 800 registered programs in 1 Mbyte of memory.
