Price estimate
We do not have a price for the MultiCam Apex3R Evo that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The MultiCam Apex3R Evo is the rack-and-pinion router in MultiCam's Apex line, the next version of the Apex3R, with a rapid traverse of 2,500 IPM (63.5 m/min) and a listed cut speed of 1,400 IPM (35.6 m/min). It comes in three table sizes: 53 x 100 in, 63 x 121 in and 83 x 121 in (135 x 254 cm, 160 x 307 cm, 210 x 307 cm).
Weight tells you where it sits. MultiCam gives 3,150 to 4,400 lbs (1,428 to 1,995 kg) depending on the table, on an all-steel tube frame with 25 mm linear ball-bearing profile rails. X and Y are driven by rack and pinion and Z by a ball screw, and the servo system is brushless digital AC. Repeatability is listed at ±0.001 in (0.025 mm).
Z-axis clearance is 6 – 8 in (152 – 203 mm), and MultiCam describes routing through materials up to 5 inches thick. That is more daylight than a thin-sheet sign router offers, though this is still a flat-table machine and not one for tall moulds.
The Evo changes are mostly at the head. A condensed knife system with a new electric oscillator knife replaces the earlier arrangement, and the pneumatic 'Quick Change' knife body now takes tapping tools as well as knives. MultiCam says the machine can use up to 10 different tap sizes in one job, which removes a secondary operation for parts such as sign faces with stand-off holes. The dust boot has quick-release attachments, so an operator can swap bristles for a spring loaded glide pad without tools.
As delivered, the work surface is 1 in (2.55 cm) phenolic. Vacuum table and pumps, the linear automatic tool changer, the CNC knife and the vision system are all options. MultiCam's own pages disagree on spindle power and on top cut speed for this model, so get both in writing.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Rapid traverse of 2,500 IPM (63.5 m/min), the fastest of the Apex routers
- Z-axis clearance of 6 – 8 in (152 – 203 mm) for thicker stock than the 3 in (76 mm) limit of the Apex1R
- Tapping through the pneumatic 'Quick Change' knife body, with up to 10 different tap sizes in one job
- 3,150 to 4,400 lbs (1,428 to 1,995 kg) of machine on an all-steel tube frame
- Modular head: knife and rotary tools can be added after purchase
Limitations
- Only three table sizes, and none longer than 121 in
- Vacuum table and pumps and the linear automatic tool changer are options
- MultiCam's pages give different spindle power ranges for this model, so the figure has to be confirmed on the quote
- At up to 4,400 lbs (1,995 kg) the larger table needs a proper floor and rigging plan

Frequently Asked Questions
01
MultiCam lists three changes. A newly designed condensed knife system with a new electric oscillator knife. An upgraded tapping feature, where the pneumatic 'Quick Change' knife body takes both knife and tapping tools and the machine can use up to 10 different tap sizes in one job. And a new dust boot with quick-release attachments and an integrated misting nozzle.
02
Three tables: 53 x 100 in, 63 x 121 in and 83 x 121 in (135 x 254 cm, 160 x 307 cm, 210 x 307 cm). Weight runs from 3,150 to 4,400 lbs (1,428 to 1,995 kg) across them. The standard work surface on all three is 1 in (2.55 cm) phenolic.
03
The feature table gives a cut speed of 1,400 IPM (35.6 m/min) and a rapid traverse of 2,500 IPM (63.5 m/min), with repeatability of ±0.001 in (0.025 mm). X and Y use rack and pinion and Z a ball screw. MultiCam's overview text quotes a higher top cut speed than its own table, so treat the table figure as the working number until a quote says otherwise.

It needs choices first. Standard items are the steel frame, the EZ Control operator interface, the high-speed three axis motion control system, the brushless digital AC servo drive system and EZ Suite Software. Vacuum table and pumps, the linear automatic tool changer, the CNC knife, coolant mist and the vision system for print registration are options.
05
The Apex1R drives X and Y with a helical system and lists 1,838 IPM (778 mm/sec) rapid traverse and a 3 in (76 mm) maximum material thickness. The Apex3R Evo uses rack and pinion, moves at 2,500 IPM (63.5 m/min) in rapid and has 6 – 8 in (152 – 203 mm) of Z-axis clearance. The Apex1R offers six table sizes against three here.
