Price estimate
We do not have a price for the MultiCam Apex1R that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The MultiCam Apex1R is a three-axis gantry router for sheet work, sold in six table sizes from model 101 at 50 x 50 in (1.27 x 1.27 m) to model 305 at 80 x 144 in (2.03 x 3.66 m). MultiCam rates it at 1,300 IPM (550.3 mm/sec) cutting speed and 1,838 IPM (778 mm/sec) rapid traverse, with repeatability of ±0.001 in (±0.025 mm).
It is a machine for flat stock. Maximum material thickness is 3 in (76 mm) under a 7 in (178 mm) gantry, so thick foam blocks, tall fixtures and deep three-dimensional carving are outside its range. Inside that limit the materials MultiCam names are broad: soft and hard plastics, foam, non-ferrous metals, composites, wood and paper products.
X and Y run on a helical drive and Z on a ball screw, guided by 25 mm linear ball-bearing profile rails on an all-steel tube frame. The standard work surface is 1 in (25.4 mm) phenolic. That matters when comparing quotes, because the vacuum table and pumps are on the options list and so is the linear automatic tool changer. A base machine is a manual-tool-change router with a phenolic top.
What is standard is the setup hardware. The hands-free material surface probe and tool calibration sensor set the tool length and find the top or bottom of the sheet without the operator handling the cutter. Spindles are listed as 7.5 HP to 10 HP (5.6 to 7.5 kW) options. A shop that also cuts gasket, foam or printed board can add the 2 mm / 5 mm electric oscillating knife, tangential knife cutters, an automatic knife tool changer and the MultiVision digital registration system.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Six table sizes, from model 101 at 50 x 50 in (1.27 x 1.27 m) to model 305 at 80 x 144 in (2.03 x 3.66 m)
- Hands-free material surface probe and tool calibration sensor are standard, so tool length is set without touching the cutter
- Repeatability of ±0.001 in (±0.025 mm) on a helical X and Y drive with a ball screw Z
- 1,300 IPM (550.3 mm/sec) cutting speed and 1,838 IPM (778 mm/sec) rapid traverse
- Knife options (2 mm / 5 mm electric oscillating knife, tangential knife cutters, automatic knife tool changer) let one table rout and knife-cut
Limitations
- Maximum material thickness is 3 in (76 mm) under a 7 in (178 mm) gantry, which rules out thick blocks and tall fixtures
- The linear automatic tool changer is an option, so a base machine changes tools by hand
- Vacuum table and pumps are options; the standard work surface is 1 in (25.4 mm) phenolic
- Spindle options stop at 10 HP (7.5 kW), which limits heavy cuts in dense material

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Six. MultiCam lists models 101 at 50 x 50 in (1.27 x 1.27 m), 103 at 50 x 100 in (1.27 x 2.54 m), 204 at 60 x 120 in (1.52 x 3.05 m), 205 at 60 x 144 in (1.52 x 3.66 m), 304 at 80 x 120 in (2.03 x 3.05 m) and 305 at 80 x 144 in (2.03 x 3.66 m). The speed, repeatability and gantry figures are given once for the whole range.
02
MultiCam lists a maximum material thickness of 3 in (76 mm) and a gantry height of 7 in (178 mm). The difference is room for the tool, the dust boot and the spoilboard, not extra cutting depth, so plan work around the 3 in (76 mm) figure.
03
No. The linear automatic tool changer is on the options list, and so is the automatic knife tool changer. What is standard is the hands-free material surface probe and tool calibration sensor, which measures each tool after a change. If your jobs use several cutters per sheet, specify the tool changer from the start.
04
Not as standard. The standard work surface is 1 in (25.4 mm) phenolic, and the vacuum table and pumps are listed as an option. Pop-up alignment pins are an option as well, so confirm how sheets will be held and located when you specify the machine.
05
The two share the helical X and Y drive, ball screw Z and 3 in (76 mm) maximum material thickness. The Apex1R has the taller gantry at 7 in (178 mm) and adds the small model 101 table. The STRATA One is listed faster, at 1,500 IPM (635 mm/s) cutting speed and 2,121 IPM (898 mm/s) rapid traverse, against 1,300 IPM (550.3 mm/sec) and 1,838 IPM (778 mm/sec) here.
