How much does the Fryer ET-65 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer ET-65 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
A 65 in (1,651 mm) swing over the bed and 50 in (1,270 mm) over the cross slide make the Fryer ET-65 the middle model of the ET-XL lathes. Center height is 32 in (813 mm). The headstock, bed, tailstock and drives are the rows it shares with the ET-50 and ET-80; what changes is how large a diameter can turn above the carriage.
Handling the workpiece is the real subject at this size, and Fryer's table spends several rows on the tailstock. It is hydraulic, with a quill 6.50 in (165 mm) in diameter that travels 12.0 in (305 mm) under a hydraulic motor at 9 ipm. The quill has an MT-6 taper hole and an A1-8 spindle nose with a built-in spindle, so a chuck or faceplate can be mounted at the tailstock end. The tailstock body itself is moved along the bed by an electric motor with rack and pinion rather than by hand.
Between that tailstock and the headstock a part may weigh 15,000 lb (6,804 kg), or 20,000 lb (9,072 kg) once a steady rest is added. The carriage is pushed by a 3.00 in (76 mm) Z ballscrew, mounted in the centre of the 30 in (762 mm) bed, with 12,720 lb of peak thrust.
Spindle figures are those of the series: 50 hp (37.3 kW) peak, 3 - 750 rpm in three automatic ranges, a 6.10 in (155 mm) bore on an A2-11 nose. The ET-65 weighs 28,500 lb (12,928 kg) with 60 in centers, and 48,400 lb (21,954 kg) with 280 in centers. Supply is 125 A at 380-500 VAC.

Best For
Frequently Asked Questions
01
A hydraulic tailstock with a built-in live center. The quill is 6.50 in (165 mm) in diameter with 12.0 in (305 mm) of travel driven by a hydraulic motor at 9 ipm, an MT-6 taper hole and an A1-8 spindle nose. The tailstock body is moved by an electric motor with rack and pinion.
02
Only swing, center height and weight differ. The ET-50 swings 50 in (1,270 mm), the ET-65 swings 65 in (1,651 mm) and the ET-80 swings 80 in (2,032 mm) over the bed. Bed width, headstock, bore, tailstock, thrust and part weight limits are the same in Fryer's table.
03
28,500 lb (12,928 kg) with the standard 60 in center distance. Fryer lists 30,500 lb (13,835 kg) with 80 in centers, 34,700 lb (15,740 kg) with 120 in, 37,800 lb (17,146 kg) with 160 in, 41,100 lb (18,643 kg) with 200 in, 44,800 lb (20,321 kg) with 240 in and 48,400 lb (21,954 kg) with 280 in.
04
As options. Fryer lists an 8 station bi-directional live tool automatic turret in VDI-40 or BMT-45, a Y axis live tool 8 station turret in BMT-45 and a 'C' axis contouring and indexing spindle. A heavy duty cross slide mounted boring bar block with 130mm diameter bar capacity is also listed.
