Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Momentum MLD 50 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Momentum MLD 50 is the middle model of Momentum's flat-bed CNC lathes, with 1,265 mm (50 in) of swing over the bed, 850 mm (33.4 in) over the cross slide and center distances of 1,400-12,400 mm (55.1-488.1 in) in 1,000 mm steps. Standard capacity between centers is 9,000 kg (19,841 lb), and two heavier ratings, 13,000 kg or 18,000 kg, are options.
Its bed is the point to understand before ordering. The MLD 50 has a two-way bed, 700 mm (27.5 in) wide with an auxiliary guide at 850 mm (33.4 in), and on this layout the turret cannot pass the steady rests. Any shaft long enough to need a steady therefore has to be planned around it: turn up to the rest, then reposition the rest or turn the part end for end. The MFA 60, with its four-way bed, lets the turret pass. If steady-rest work is the main job, that difference matters more than the extra swing.
From the carriage up, the MLD 50 has much in common with the larger machine. Its cross slide is 420 mm (16.5 in) wide and its carriage 950 mm (37.4 in), the same widths listed for the MFA 60, and it takes the same H4-350 or V12 hydraulic turrets, with a BMT-75 as the option, with or without Y axis. X travel is 730 mm (28.7 in).
The spindle figures follow the MLC 40 instead: a FANUC αiI 30 motor at 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) and 600 rpm with the standard 6 in bore, 800 rpm as an option. The MLD 50 adds one bore size above the MLC 40, a 16 in bore on an A2-28 nose limited to 250 rpm. The intermediate bores run 450 rpm (9 in), 400 rpm (12 in) and 300 rpm (14.5 in). An αiI 40 motor at 37 / 45 kW (49.6 / 60.3 hp) is optional.
Rapids are 6 m/min (236.2 in/min). The tailstock quill is a 185 mm (7.2 in) rotating type with 250 mm (9.8 in) of travel, and 250 mm (9.8 in) or 350 mm (13.7 in) quills can be ordered for heavier work. The machine weighs 17,000 kg (37,478 lb) at 1,000 mm center distance and adds 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) per extra 1,000 mm.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,265 mm (50 in) swing over the bed and 850 mm (33.4 in) over the cross slide
- Three load ratings between centers: 9,000 kg (19,841 lb) standard, 13,000 kg or 18,000 kg optional
- 730 mm (28.7 in) of X travel on a 420 mm (16.5 in) wide cross slide
- Spindle bores from the 6 in standard size to a 16 in option on an A2-28 nose
- Optional BMT-75 turret, available with or without Y axis
Limitations
- Two-way bed: the turret cannot pass steady rests, so supported shafts need the rests repositioned to turn the full length
- Top speed is 600 rpm with the 6 in bore (800 rpm optional), falling to 250 rpm with the 16 in bore
- The standard motor is 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp); the 37 / 45 kW (49.6 / 60.3 hp) motor is an option
- Rapid traverse is 6 m/min (236.2 in/min) on X and Z

Frequently Asked Questions
01
No. The bed row reads two-way bed, turret cannot pass steady rests. Work that sits in a steady has to be turned up to the rest and the rest then moved. In this family the MFA 60 is the model with a four-way bed on which the turret can pass, so it is the one to look at if uninterrupted turning past steadies is essential.
02
Mainly in diameter and load. The MLD 50 swings 1,265 mm (50 in) over the bed and 850 mm (33.4 in) over the cross slide and carries 9,000 kg (19,841 lb) between centers. The MLC 40 swings 1,020 mm (40 in) over the bed and 610 mm (24 in) over the cross slide and carries 8,000 kg (17,637 lb). The standard main motor is 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) on both.
03
Three ratings between centers are listed: 9,000 kg (19,841 lb) as standard, and 13,000 kg or 18,000 kg as options. The table does not say what changes with each option, so ask what is fitted for the higher ratings. The tailstock quill options of 250 mm (9.8 in) or 350 mm (13.7 in), over the standard 185 mm (7.2 in), are the related choice.
04
The standard tailstock has a rotating quill of 185 mm (7.2 in) diameter. Quills of 250 mm (9.8 in) or 350 mm (13.7 in) are options. Quill travel is 250 mm (9.8 in) and the center is MT6, the same taper as the spindle center.
05
600 rpm with the standard 6 in bore, or 800 rpm with the speed option. With the optional bores the limits are 450 rpm at 9 in, 400 rpm at 12 in, 300 rpm at 14.5 in and 250 rpm at 16 in. At those speeds the machine is suited to large diameters; small journals on a long shaft will run below their ideal surface speed.
