Overview

The MCM TANK.G 2000 is the medium-size model of the TANK.G line of horizontal machining centers. In its 4-Axes form it is a 2,000 mm (78.7 in) cube: X, Y and Z all carry that figure.

Choose a tilting head and the Y axis changes. Both the 5-Axes and the 5-Axes Multitasking versions list 1,700 mm (66.9 in) of Y, less than the 4-axis machine, while X and Z stay at 2,000 mm (78.7 in). The head itself tilts through 175 degrees, +80/-95. For tall parts this is the trade to weigh: full height with a horizontal spindle and B-axis indexing, or five-axis access with less vertical stroke.

Rapid feed is 45 m/min (1,771.7 ipm) in all three versions. That is a step down from the 50 m/min (1,968.5 ipm) of the TANK.G 1600. The same pattern shows in the Multitasking table: 200 min-1 here against 500 min-1 on the TANK.G 1600, on the same Ø 1,000 mm (Ø 39.3 in) and Ø 1,250 mm (Ø 49.2 in) pallets.

Milling pallets are 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.3 x 39.3 in) or 1,250 x 1,250 mm (49.2 x 49.2 in), on a B-axis listed at 20 min-1. HSK, ISO and CAPTO tapers are available and the magazine row reads "up to 80 (999)". One oddity in MCM's table: the Process Technology row is blank for the 4-Axes column, though milling is the obvious reading.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 4-Axes version has 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of travel on each of X, Y and Z
  • 5-axis versions keep the full 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of X and Z with a 175 degree (+80/-95) tilting head
  • Pallets of 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.3 x 39.3 in) or 1,250 x 1,250 mm (49.2 x 49.2 in)
  • Multitasking version turns and grinds at up to 200 min-1 on round pallets up to Ø 1,250 mm (Ø 49.2 in)
  • Listed in all three axis configurations, unlike the TANK.G 1600, which has no 4-Axes column

Limitations

  • 5-axis versions give up Y travel: 1,700 mm (66.9 in) instead of 2,000 mm (78.7 in)
  • Multitasking table speed is 200 min-1, well under the 500 min-1 of the TANK.G 1600
  • Rapid feed of 45 m/min (1,771.7 ipm) is lower than the 50 m/min (1,968.5 ipm) of the TANK.G 1600
  • Pallets are no larger than on the TANK.G 1600 despite the bigger travels
06

Best For

Tall 4-axis parts that use 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of Y Large 5-axis structural and casing work with a tilting head Turning of large-diameter parts at moderate table speeds Twin-pallet and FMS installations on 1,250 mm pallets

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How much Y travel does the TANK.G 2000 have?

It depends on the configuration. The 4-Axes version has 2,000 mm (78.7 in). The 5-Axes and 5-Axes Multitasking versions have 1,700 mm (66.9 in). X and Z are 2,000 mm (78.7 in) in every version.

02 How fast are the axes of the TANK.G 2000?

MCM lists an X/Y/Z rapid feed of 45 m/min (1,771.7 ipm) for all three versions. The B-axis rotary table is listed at 20 min-1 on the 4-Axes and 5-Axes versions and 200 min-1 on the 5-Axes Multitasking version.

03 What can the Multitasking version machine?

MCM lists milling, turning and grinding for the 5-Axes Multitasking configuration. It works on round pallets of Ø 1,000 mm (Ø 39.3 in) or Ø 1,250 mm (Ø 49.2 in) with a table speed of up to 200 min-1 and the same 175 degree (+80/-95) tilting head as the 5-Axes milling version.

04 How does the TANK.G 2000 compare with the TANK.G 2600?

The TANK.G 2600 extends X to 2,600 mm (102.4 in). Y, Z, pallet sizes, table speeds and the tilting head are listed with the same values on both. The 4-Axes and 5-Axes versions of the TANK.G 2600 are slower in rapid feed, at 40 m/min (1,574.8 ipm) against 45 m/min (1,771.7 ipm) here.
