Overview
The Mazak VC-Ez 20X is the larger of the two 5-axis machines in the VC-Ez X group: a CAT No.40 vertical with 32 in (813 mm) of X travel, 20 in (508 mm) each of Y and Z, and a 12,000 rpm spindle. The two rotary axes are in the table. B tilts from -110° to +40° and C turns ±360°.
That lopsided tilt matters when fixtures are planned. On the long side the table goes past vertical, which opens up undercut faces and lets a short tool reach the side of a part. The other side stops at 40°, so features needing a steep tilt have to be brought round to the favoured side with C. Mazak describes the series trunnion and rotary table as roller gear driven, and the linear axes as running on Hybrid MX roller guideways with pre-tensioned ballscrews supported at both ends.
The only motor figure Mazak gives is 18.5 kW (25 HP) on a five-minute rating. Read it as a short-time peak and ask for the continuous power and torque before judging the machine for long roughing passes in steel. A 12,000 rpm CAT No.40 spindle is a general-purpose choice, comfortable with small and medium cutters in aluminium and steel alike. The magazine holds 30 tools, which a multi-operation 5-axis job can fill quickly.
The VC-Ez 16X is the smaller frame of the group, with 28 in (711 mm) of X and 16 in (406 mm) of Y and Z around the same CAT No.40 taper, 12,000 rpm and 30 tools. Choosing the 20X therefore buys travel, not spindle. Mazak's table for this model gives no table size, table load, rapid rate or machine weight, so those have to come with the quotation. For programming, the VC-Ez X series is listed with MAZATROL conversational programming, QUICK MAZATROL and Intelligent Pocket Milling.
