Overview

The Litz VH-600A is a compact, fast vertical machining center: 610 mm (24.0 in) of X travel, 450 mm (17.7 in) of Y and 510 mm (20.1 in) of Z, with rapids of 60 / 60 / 30 m/min (2,362 / 2,362 / 1,181 ipm). The spindle is a direct-drive unit at 12,000 rpm with BBT-40 tooling.

Speed between cuts is what sets the VH series apart inside the Litz range, and on a machine this small the 60 m/min X and Y rate shows up directly in cycle time. Short parts with many tool changes and many short moves are where it earns its keep.

The spindle motor is larger than the footprint suggests. Litz lists 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) on a machine whose table is only 700 x 450 mm (27.6 x 17.7 in) and whose load limit is 350 kg (772 lb). The VH-800A uses the same motor on a 950 x 520 mm table, so the VH-600A puts the most motor over the least table in the family. Faster spindles are offered as options: 15,000 rpm direct-drive, and 15,000 rpm or 20,000 rpm built-in, the latter two requiring the spindle water chiller.

Tool length is the tight limit. The 24-tool arm changer takes tools up to 200 mm (7.9 in) and 7 kg (15 lb). This is also the one VH model with no larger magazine on its option list. Control is the FANUC 0i-MF PLUS 3, with the Mitsubishi M80 as an option. The machine weighs 4,620 kg (10,185 lb) and needs 25 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 60 / 60 / 30 m/min (2,362 / 2,362 / 1,181 ipm) rapids on a 610 mm machine
  • 12,000 rpm direct-drive spindle with an 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) motor
  • Built-in spindles of 15,000 rpm and 20,000 rpm are available as options
  • Spindle nose comes within 85 mm (3.3 in) of the table

Limitations

  • Tool length limited to 200 mm (7.9 in), against 300 mm on the VH-800A
  • No 30T or 32T magazine option on this size; the VH-800A offers both
  • Table load of 350 kg (772 lb)
  • Built-in spindle options need the spindle water chiller as well

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How fast are the rapids on the Litz VH-600A?

Rapid traverse is 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) in X and Y and 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) in Z. The axis motors are 3 / 3 / 4 kW. Coolant through the ballscrews, linear roller guideways and linear scales are listed as options on the three axes.

02 What spindle does the VH-600A have?

The standard spindle is direct-drive at 12,000 rpm with a BBT-40 shank and an 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) motor. Options are a 15,000 rpm direct-drive spindle and built-in spindles of 15,000 rpm and 20,000 rpm, which need the spindle water chiller.

03 What is the work envelope of the VH-600A?

Travels are 610 mm (24.0 in), 450 mm (17.7 in) and 510 mm (20.1 in) in X, Y and Z. The table is 700 x 450 mm (27.6 x 17.7 in), rated for 350 kg (772 lb), with the spindle nose 85 to 595 mm (3.3 to 23.4 in) above it.

04 Which control comes with the VH-600A?

The specification table names the FANUC 0i-MF PLUS 3 and the accessory list marks FANUC as standard. The Mitsubishi M80 is listed as an option. A 4th axis rotating table is also optional.
