Overview

The Litz MV-1200A is the BT-40 version of the MV-1200 vertical machining center. X travel is 1,200 mm (47.2 in), Y is 560 mm (22.0 in) and Z is 600 mm (23.6 in), with an 8,000 rpm spindle driven by a 7.5 / 11 kW (10 / 15 HP) motor.

Litz sells this frame two ways, and the letter matters. The MV-1200B takes BT-50 tooling, turns at 6,000 rpm and has an 11 / 15 kW motor. The MV-1200A described here is the lighter-cutting, faster-turning choice. It weighs 8,000 kg (17,637 lb), and its changer accepts tools up to 8 kg (18 lb) and 300 mm (11.8 in) long.

Pick the A when the work is mostly 40-taper tooling on medium-sized parts: plates, brackets, fixtures and housings where a big table is needed but a larger-taper spindle would sit idle. The table is 1,200 x 560 mm (47.2 x 22.0 in) and holds 750 kg (1,653 lb). If more low-end torque is needed later, a ZF gearbox with cooling system is on the option list, as is a 10,000 rpm spindle.

Rapids are 36 / 36 / 24 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 945 ipm). The standard magazine has 24 tools and a 32T arm type magazine is optional. Coolant through the ballscrews, roller type linear guideways and linear scales can be added on all three axes. Supply requirement is 25 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,200 x 560 x 600 mm travels with a 750 kg (1,653 lb) table load
  • 8,000 rpm BT-40 spindle, faster than the 6,000 rpm of the MV-1200B
  • 32T arm type magazine available in place of the standard 24T
  • ZF gearbox with cooling system and a 10,000 rpm spindle are listed options

Limitations

  • 7.5 / 11 kW (10 / 15 HP) spindle motor is light for a 1,200 mm machine
  • Tool weight limit is 8 kg (18 lb), against 15 kg (33 lb) on the MV-1200B
  • Spindle oil cooler is an option, not standard
  • Z travel of 600 mm (23.6 in) is shorter than the 635 mm of the MV-1200B

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the MV-1200A and the MV-1200B?

The spindle and tooling. The MV-1200A uses BT-40, 8,000 rpm and a 7.5 / 11 kW motor. The MV-1200B uses BT-50, 6,000 rpm and an 11 / 15 kW motor, with a 15 kg (33 lb) tool weight limit and 635 mm (25.0 in) of Z travel. X and Y travels and the table are the same.

02 What are the travels and table of the MV-1200A?

Travels are 1,200 mm (47.2 in) in X, 560 mm (22.0 in) in Y and 600 mm (23.6 in) in Z. The 1,200 x 560 mm (47.2 x 22.0 in) table carries 750 kg (1,653 lb), and spindle nose to table distance is 100 to 700 mm (3.9 to 27.6 in).

03 How many tools does the MV-1200A carry?

The standard arm type magazine holds 24 tools, and a 32T arm type magazine is an option. Tools can be 300 mm (11.8 in) long and weigh 8 kg (18 lb). Maximum diameter is listed as 80 / 125 mm (3.1 / 4.9 in).

04 Can the MV-1200A be fitted with a gearbox?

Yes, as an option. The accessory list shows a ZF gearbox with cooling system among the spindle options, next to a 10,000 rpm spindle, a spindle oil cooler and coolant through the spindle. The standard spindle is 8,000 rpm.
