Overview

The Litz LV-1000A is the longer-travel model of the LV vertical machining centres: 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in X on the same 500 mm (19.7 in) Y and 540 mm (21.3 in) Z as the LV-800A, with a 1,000 x 500 mm (39.4 x 19.7 in) table.

Table and X travel are the same length here, so the spindle reaches the whole table surface and nothing more. Long plates, rails and multi-vise setups are the work this length is for. Table load stays at 500 kg (1,102 lb), which is modest for a metre of table; steel fixtures with several vises need adding up before they go on.

The spindle nose sits 100 to 640 mm (3.9 to 25.2 in) above the table. At the low end that lets short tools reach thin plate clamped straight to the table, and at the top there is room for a part on a 4th axis, which Litz lists as an option. The spindle itself turns 12,000 rpm with a BBT-40 shank and an 11 / 15 / 18.5 kW (14.8 / 20.1 / 24.8 hp) motor.

Meehanite castings, linear guideways on the 3 axes and pre-tension ballscrews make up the structure. Rapid speeds are 36 m/min in X and Y and 24 m/min in Z. Linear scales and coolant-through ballscrews can be ordered for work where thermal growth matters.

Tooling is a 24-pocket arm changer for tools up to 300 mm (11.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb). The machine weighs 5,800 kg (12,787 lb) and needs 20 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of X travel with a table of the same length
  • 12,000 rpm spindle with BBT-40 shank, 11 / 15 / 18.5 kW (14.8 / 20.1 / 24.8 hp)
  • 36 / 36 / 24 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 945 ipm) rapid speeds
  • Spindle nose comes down to 100 mm (3.9 in) above the table
  • Linear guideways on the 3 axes and Meehanite cast iron construction

Limitations

  • 500 kg (1,102 lb) table load on a 1,000 mm (39.4 in) table
  • Y travel is 500 mm (19.7 in), no more than on the LV-800A
  • Linear scales, coolant-through ballscrews and the 4th axis are options
  • Chip conveyor and coolant through the spindle are options

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the Litz LV-1000A differ from the LV-800A?

X travel is 1,000 mm (39.4 in) and the table is 1,000 x 500 mm (39.4 x 19.7 in). Y travel of 500 mm (19.7 in), Z travel of 540 mm (21.3 in), the 12,000 rpm spindle, the 24-tool magazine and the 500 kg (1,102 lb) table load are common to both models. The LV-1000A weighs 5,800 kg (12,787 lb).

02 What is the spindle nose to table distance on the LV-1000A?

It is 100 to 640 mm (3.9 to 25.2 in). With 540 mm (21.3 in) of Z travel, the spindle nose can come within 100 mm of the table surface, which helps when short tools have to reach low workpieces.

03 What are the feed rates of the LV-1000A?

Rapid speed is 36 m/min in X, 36 m/min in Y and 24 m/min in Z, or 1,417 / 1,417 / 945 ipm. The cutting feedrate range is 1-20,000 mm/min (up to 787 ipm). The X, Y and Z axis motors are 3 / 3 / 3 kW.

04 Which options are listed for the LV-1000A?

Litz lists a 15,000 rpm spindle, a spindle oil cooler, coolant through the spindle, a 30T magazine, a chip conveyor, linear scales, tool length and workpiece measurement systems, an oil mist collector and a 4th axis as optional accessories. FANUC 0iMF is the standard controller.
