Overview

The Haas VF-11/40 extends the 120 in machine in Y: travels are 120 × 40 × 30 in (3,048 × 1,016 × 762 mm), where the VF-10/40 has 32 in (813 mm) of Y. The spindle is the 40-taper, 8,100 rpm inline direct-drive unit rated 30 hp (22.4 kW).

One detail in Haas's table deserves attention before anything else. The table is listed at 120 × 28 in (3,048 × 711 mm), the size given for the VF-10/40, while Y travel is 40 in. So the added stroke lets the spindle work beyond the table's 28 in width. That helps with parts or fixture plates that overhang, and with reaching edge features on wide work, but it does not add clamping area: there are five T-slots on 4.92 in (125 mm) centres.
