How much does the PAMA Speedmill B cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the PAMA Speedmill B that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The PAMA Speedmill B is the dynamic floor-type boring mill in the range: a Speedmill milling machine fitted with a boring bar, which is what the B stands for. Its X and Y axes run on roller guideways, not the hydrostatic guides of the Speedram models, and rapid feed is up to 35,000 mm/min.
Roller guides give quicker axis response and need no hydrostatic oil supply for the main axes. Hydrostatics are kept where PAMA considers them most useful: the ram is still guided inside the headstock by hydrostatic pads. The column is thermally symmetric with a centrally mounted head.
The bar is Direct Drive. Boring spindle diameter is 120 - 160 mm, W stroke 600 - 1,000 mm, and the spindle delivers 66 - 82 kW and 1,175 - 2,494 Nm (S1) at 4,000 - 5,000 rpm. Ram travel is 1,200 - 2,000 mm in a ram of 430 x 430 - 500 x 500 mm section, for a combined Z+W stroke of 1,800 - 3,000 mm.
Size is the limit to check. Y travel is 2,000 - 5,000 mm, half the top figure of the Speedram HP, and the series has four sizes, 1000 B to 4000 B. X is 5,000 mm plus 1,000 mm extensions, as on the other floor-type models.
This is a machine for medium and large parts with a lot of milling and a moderate amount of boring. Shops whose work is dominated by large bores at low speed will be better served by the geared Speedram.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Roller guideways on X and Y with rapid feed up to 35,000 mm/min
- Direct Drive boring bar, 120 - 160 mm, at 4,000 - 5,000 rpm
- Ram still guided by hydrostatic pads inside the headstock
- Thermally symmetric column with a centrally mounted head
- Combined Z+W stroke of 1,800 - 3,000 mm
Limitations
- Y travel stops at 5,000 mm; the Speedram HP goes to 10,000 mm
- Torque tops out at 2,494 Nm
- No hydrostatic guides on X and Y, so less damping than the Speedram models on heavy cuts
- Largest boring spindle is 160 mm

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The Speedmill B has a boring bar: a boring spindle of 120 - 160 mm with a W axis stroke of 600 - 1,000 mm. The Speedmill has a ram headstock without a W axis. Both share roller guideways on X and Y, Y travel of 2,000 - 5,000 mm and rapids up to 35,000 mm/min.
02
Roller guideways on the X and Y axes, chosen for axis dynamics. The ram is guided inside the headstock by hydrostatic pads. Ram and boring bar both have a feedback system that compensates for elongation caused by temperature changes.
03
The Direct Drive boring spindle is rated 66 - 82 kW and 1,175 - 2,494 Nm in S1, with spindle speeds of 4,000 - 5,000 rpm. Those are ranges over the four sizes, 1000 B to 4000 B, so the value for a particular size should be confirmed with PAMA.
04
Y travel of the headstock is 2,000 - 5,000 mm and ram travel 1,200 - 2,000 mm. X travel of the column is 5,000 mm plus 1,000 mm steps. Table capacity depends on the milling or turning table chosen, which PAMA configures per order.
