Overview

Eight metres long and five wide, the table of the Hartford MCW-8650 measures 8,000 x 5,000 mm (315.0 x 196.9 in). Y travel is 6,500 mm (255.9 in) and X travel 8,000 mm (315.0 in). It is the wider of the two eight-metre models in Hartford's MCW moving-column series.

The series comes in two cross sections and seven lengths. Every x550 model, such as the MCW-8550, has a 4,000 mm wide table under 5,500 mm (216.5 in) of Y travel. Every x650 model has this machine's 5,000 mm table and 6,500 mm of Y. Vertical travels, spindles and magazines do not change with either dimension.

With a table that is closer to square than any other MCW, the MCW-8650 suits wide single parts: large die sets for body panels, ring-shaped fabrications, machine frames with a broad base. The fixed table carries 3,000 kg/m², and Y travel that exceeds the table width leaves space for an angular head to work on the long sides.

On the vertical side, Z travel is 1,000 mm (1,200 or 1,400 mm optional) and the W axis moves the cross-beam 1,800 mm, optionally 2,100 mm. The #50 spindle runs 6,000 or 8,000 rpm as a gear head and 10,000 rpm as a hybrid.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 8,000 x 5,000 mm (315.0 x 196.9 in) fixed table
  • 6,500 mm (255.9 in) of Y travel, the wider of the two MCW cross sections
  • W-axis cross-beam travel of 1,800 mm in addition to Z
  • Automatic universal, 90 degree and extension heads can be used

Limitations

  • Rated 3,000 kg/m² over the table, with no total load figure in the table
  • Fastest spindle listed is the 10,000 rpm hybrid
  • Only two table widths exist in the series: this one and the narrower one of the MCW-8550
