Overview
Torque is where the Johnford VTC-1000ATC separates itself from the model below it. Maximum spindle torque is 10,049 Nm (7,412 lb-ft), close to three times the 3,455 Nm (2,548 lb-ft) of the VTC-800ATC, although the two machines share one outline of 5,590 x 5,555 x 5,525 mm (220 x 218.7 x 217.5 in).

What this adds up to is a vertical lathe for heavy interrupted cuts on medium-diameter parts. Cast pump housings, forged rings with scale, valve bodies in stainless or duplex steel: the cut is slow and the insert is large, and the machine needs torque at low table speed more than it needs rpm. The 250 x 250 mm (9.8 x 9.8 in) ram and the box ways on all axes are there to carry that load.
