Overview

The Johnford HT-35-2SD combines a 10 in main spindle, an 8 in sub-spindle and two 12-station turrets on 800 mm (31.5 in) between centers, with 760 mm (30 in) of Z1/Z2 travel.

Its two spindles are deliberately unequal. The main spindle has a Ø254 mm (10 in) chuck, an A2-8 nose, Ø76.5 mm (3 in) bar capacity and 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) at 3,500 rpm. The sub-spindle has a Ø203.2 mm (8 in) chuck, an A2-6 nose, Ø51 mm (2 in) bar capacity and 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) at 4,500 rpm. Process planning follows from that: stock removal on the main side, the lighter and faster cuts on the sub side, with one turret assigned to each.

Of the HT tables, this is the only column that names the extra axes. Rapid traverse is given as 15 m/min for X and U and 18 m/min for Z, R and W, which makes the count plain: two cross axes, two longitudinal axes and the sub-spindle axis.

Against the shorter HT-30-2SD, which has 460 mm (18.1 in) of Z travel and 8 in spindles on both sides, the HT-35-2SD accepts longer and thicker stock, and at 11,000 kg (24,200 lb) it is a considerably heavier machine. Length is 5,600 mm (220.5 in).

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How many axes does the HT-35-2SD have?

The rapid traverse row names five linear axes: X and U at 15 m/min and Z, R and W at 18 m/min. The X1/X2 axes have 3 kW servo motors, the Z1/Z2 axes 4 kW and the W axis 4 kW.

02 What is the difference between the HT-35-2SD and the HT-35-2S?

The number of turrets. The HT-35-2S has one 12-station turret serving both spindles in turn. The HT-35-2SD has two, so both spindles can be cutting at the same time. Spindles, 760 mm (30 in) of Z travel and the 11,000 kg (24,200 lb) weight are the same in both tables.

03 What chuck sizes does the HT-35-2SD use?

Ø254 mm (10 in) on the main spindle and Ø203.2 mm (8 in) on the sub-spindle. A through hole 3-jaw chuck with one set of hard and soft jaws is on the standard accessory list.

04 How large is the HT-35-2SD?

5,600 x 2,300 x 2,300 mm (220.5 x 90.6 x 90.6 in), at 11,000 kg (24,200 lb). Swing over the bed is Ø580 mm (22.8 in) and the bed is inclined at 45°.
