How much does the TRAK TC2 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the TRAK TC2 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The TRAK TC2 is a compact turret lathe with 12 in (305 mm) of swing, a maximum turning diameter of 8 in (203 mm) and a maximum turning length of 11 in (279 mm). It runs the ProtoTRAK RLX CNC, carries an 8-station bolt-on turret, weighs 3,087 lbs (1,400 kg) and measures 80.4 x 36.5 x 75.7 in (2,042 x 927 x 1,923 mm), length by width by height.
The spindle has an A2-5 nose and a 7.5 hp (5.6 kW) motor with a dynamic brake, and the front bearing is 100 mm (3.9 in) in diameter. Speed depends on which spindle is ordered. The standard one runs 50 - 2,500 rpm and is described as low speed, high torque. The high-speed spindle option runs 50 - 4,000 rpm. Small diameters need rpm to reach a useful surface speed, so work at the bottom of the diameter range is the case for the option.
Workholding is the other decision. TRAK lists two chucks, both as options: an 8 in (203 mm) manual chuck and a 6 in (152 mm) hydraulic chuck. The choice changes the hole through the spindle, 2.4 in (61 mm) with the manual chuck against 2.047 in (52 mm) with the hydraulic one, and the hydraulic chuck option brings the machine to 3,370 lbs. The drawtube thread is M60 x 2 mm.
Both axes are direct drive, X with a brake. X travels 7.5 in (190 mm) and Z 11.4 in (290 mm), with rapids of 600 ipm (15.2 m/min) on Z and 300 ipm (7.6 m/min) on X. The turret indexes by servo motor/pneumatic and holds 0.75 x 0.75 in (19 x 19 mm) shank tools and boring bars up to 1.25 in (32 mm). For longer parts, the TC820si has a 12-station turret, 20 in (508 mm) of turning length and a weight of 8,000 lbs (3,629 kg).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 8-station bolt-on turret with servo motor/pneumatic indexing, for 0.75 x 0.75 in (19 x 19 mm) shank tools and boring bars up to 1.25 in (32 mm)
- Small installation: 80.4 x 36.5 x 75.7 in (2,042 x 927 x 1,923 mm) and 3,087 lbs (1,400 kg), or 3,370 lbs with the hydraulic chuck option
- Runs on 208V three-phase at 37.4A full load; a transformer option covers 480V at 23.2A
- 2.4 in (61 mm) spindle bore with the manual chuck, on an A2-5 nose
- Direct drive on X and Z, with a brake on X and rapids of 600 ipm (15.2 m/min) on Z
- Runs the ProtoTRAK RLX CNC, the control also listed for the TRL 1630RX, TRL 1845RX and TRL 2470RX lathes
Limitations
- Maximum turning length is 11 in (279 mm) on 11.4 in (290 mm) of Z travel, so shaft work belongs on a longer machine such as the TC820si at 20 in (508 mm)
- The standard spindle tops out at 2,500 rpm; 4,000 rpm is the high-speed spindle option
- Choosing the 6 in (152 mm) hydraulic chuck option cuts the spindle bore from 2.4 in (61 mm) to 2.047 in (52 mm)
- Spindle power is 7.5 hp (5.6 kW), against 14.75 hp (11.0 kW) continuous on the TC820si
- Both listed chucks are options, so workholding has to be specified with the machine

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Up to 8 in (203 mm) in diameter and 11 in (279 mm) long, inside a 12 in (305 mm) swing. X travel is 7.5 in (190 mm) and Z travel 11.4 in (290 mm). Stock fed through the spindle is limited by the bore: 2.4 in (61 mm) with the manual chuck or 2.047 in (52 mm) with the hydraulic chuck option.
02
The standard spindle runs 50 - 2,500 rpm and is listed as low speed, high torque. A high-speed spindle option runs 50 - 4,000 rpm. Either way the motor is 7.5 hp (5.6 kW) with a dynamic brake, on an A2-5 spindle nose.
03
Two, both as options: an 8 in (203 mm) manual chuck and a 6 in (152 mm) hydraulic chuck. With the hydraulic chuck the spindle bore is 2.047 in (52 mm) instead of 2.4 in (61 mm), and the machine weighs 3,370 lbs instead of 3,087 lbs (1,400 kg). The drawtube thread is M60 x 2 mm.
04
208V three-phase at 37.4A full load. For a 480V supply there is a transformer option, at 23.2A. The air requirement is listed as 90 PSI, and the coolant tank holds 15.8 gal (60 L).
05
The TC820si is a larger machine: 15.75 in (400 mm) of swing, up to 20 in (508 mm) of turning length, an A2-6 spindle with a 3 in (76 mm) bore, a 12-station turret and 8,000 lbs (3,629 kg). The TC2 has 12 in (305 mm) of swing, 11 in (279 mm) of turning length, an A2-5 spindle, an 8-station turret and weighs 3,087 lbs (1,400 kg).
