Overview
Middle of three table-type boring machining centers, the Johnford BMC-130 pairs a Ø130 mm (Ø5.1 in) spindle with a 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) motor. Its travels are 3,000 mm (118 in) in X, 2,300 mm (90.5 in) in Y, 1,600 mm (63 in) in Z and 700 mm (27.5 in) in W.
The interesting row in the table is the gearbox. Spindle speed is 0-2,500 rpm, and the number of speed steps is 2 as standard or 4 as an option. More steps keep the motor in its power band over a wider span of spindle speeds, which is what a shop wants if the same machine must swing a large facing head slowly in the morning and drill at the top of the range in the afternoon. The BMC-110 has 2 steps only; the BMC-160 has 4.
