Overview

The Johnford BMC-110 is a table-type horizontal boring machining center with a Ø110 mm (Ø4.3 in) boring spindle. The column carries the headstock through 1,800 mm (70.8 in) of Y, the table moves 2,000 mm (78.7 in) in X and 1,600 mm (63 in) in Z, and the spindle itself extends 550 mm (21.7 in) as the W axis.

That quill is the defining feature of the type. It lets a boring bar reach into a housing without a long, flexible tool: the spindle nose can be anywhere from 550 to 2,150 mm (21.7-84.7 in) from the table centre. Together with a B-axis rotary table indexing in 0.001° steps, which Johnford includes as standard with precision locating holes at every 90°, a gearbox or pump casing can be bored from four sides with the bores held in line.

The table is 1,400 x 1,600 mm (55 x 63 in) and carries 12,000 kg (26,400 lb). Spindle speed is 5-3,000 rpm in 2 steps, with a No. 50 taper and a 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) motor rated continuous and 30 minutes. The gearbox has its own automatic lubrication and an oil cooler, and the headstock is hydraulically counterbalanced.

Among the three BMC sizes this is the only one with a 2-step drive as its sole option and the smallest motor; the BMC-130 moves to 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp). It is also the most compact at 7,100 x 6,200 mm (279.5 x 244.1 in) of floor and 27,000 kg (59,400 lb). A 60-tool ATC is standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the axis travels of the BMC-110?

X 2,000 mm (78.7 in), Y 1,800 mm (70.8 in), Z 1,600 mm (63 in) and W, the boring spindle travel, 550 mm (21.7 in). The spindle centre can be 0-1,800 mm (0-70.9 in) above the table top.

02 Does the BMC-110 have a rotary table?

Yes. A 0.001° B-axis rotary table with precision locating holes at every 90° and an absolute encoder is a standard accessory. The table revolves at 4 rpm.

03 How does the BMC-110 differ from the BMC-130?

The BMC-130 has a Ø130 mm (Ø5.1 in) spindle, 3,000 mm (118 in) of X, 2,300 mm (90.5 in) of Y, a 15,000 kg (33,000 lb) table and a 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) motor. The BMC-110 has a Ø110 mm (Ø4.3 in) spindle, 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of X and a top speed of 3,000 rpm, where the BMC-130 stops at 2,500 rpm.

04 What attachments are offered for the BMC-110?

Optional accessories include a 90° milling head, a universal milling head, a U-axis facing head, a spindle extension sleeve and angle plates. Coolant through the spindle at 20 bar or 70 bar with cartridge filtration is also an option.
