Johnford BMC-160 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Johnford BMC-160 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Johnford or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Johnford BMC-160 is the largest table-type boring machining center in the BMC series: a Ø160 mm (Ø6.29 in) spindle, a 2,000 x 2,500 mm (78.7 x 98.4 in) rotary table that takes 25,000 kg (55,000 lb), and travels of 4,000 mm (157.4 in) in X and 3,000 mm (118.1 in) in Y.

From the BMC-130 the load rating rises by two thirds, from 15,000 kg (33,000 lb), while the motor stays at 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp). What changes in the drive is the gearing. Four speed steps are standard here and the range ends at 2,000 rpm, so the machine trades top speed for torque at the low end, where a spindle of this diameter does its work: line boring, back facing, large-diameter facing with a U-axis head.

Z and W are unchanged at 1,600 mm (63 in) and 700 mm (27.5 in). That is worth a second look for long parts. A workpiece that fills the 2,500 mm table depth leaves limited Z stroke for approach, and the quill's 700 mm then decides how deep a bore can be reached without an extension sleeve, which Johnford lists as an option.

By footprint this is a different machine from its siblings: 9,600 x 11,600 mm (378 x 456.7 in), 6,000 mm (236.2 in) high, 50,000 kg (110,000 lb). Above this size Johnford moves to the floor-type FBMC series, where the workpiece stands on a floor plate.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 25,000 kg (55,000 lb) on a 2,000 x 2,500 mm (78.7 x 98.4 in) rotary table
  • Ø160 mm (Ø6.29 in) boring spindle with a 4-step drive as standard
  • 4,000 mm (157.4 in) of X and 3,000 mm (118.1 in) of Y travel
  • Spindle centre up to 3,000 mm (118.1 in) above the table top
  • 60-tool ATC as standard, 80, 100, 120 or more as options

Limitations

  • Spindle speed range ends at 2,000 rpm
  • Motor power is the same 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) as the BMC-130
  • Z travel of 1,600 mm (63 in) is no longer than on the smaller models
  • Needs 9,600 x 11,600 mm (378 x 456.7 in) of floor and 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of height

Best For

Large gearbox and turbine casings up to 25,000 kg (55,000 lb) Line boring and facing of heavy machine frames Big valve bodies and press components worked on four sides

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the BMC-160 table?

2,000 x 2,500 mm (78.7 x 98.4 in), with a load capacity of 25,000 kg (55,000 lb). It is a 0.001° B-axis rotary table with locating holes at every 90° and turns at 4 rpm.

02 What are the spindle figures of the BMC-160?

Boring spindle diameter Ø160 mm (Ø6.29 in), No. 50 taper, 0-2,000 rpm in 4 steps, and a 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) motor rated continuous / 30 minutes. W-axis travel is 700 mm (27.5 in).

03 How much does the BMC-160 weigh?

50,000 kg (110,000 lb). The BMC-130 weighs 33,000 kg (72,600 lb) and the BMC-110 27,000 kg (59,400 lb), so the largest model is in a different class for transport and foundation.

04 How fast are the BMC-160 feeds?

Rapid traverse is 12 / 12 / 12 / 6 m/min (472 / 472 / 472 / 236 ipm) on X, Y, Z and W, and the cutting feed range is 1~6,000 mm/min (0.04~236 ipm).
