Overview
The Mikron MILL E 500 U is the smaller of GF Machining Solutions' two MILL E U machines: a cast iron C-frame 5-axis machining center with 500 × 450 × 400 mm of travel, a 20,000 rpm HSK-A63 spindle rated 36 kW and 120 Nm, and a T-slot table Ø500 mm. GF pitches it at job shops and part producers, and the table reads that way: general 5-axis work in a range of materials rather than one specialised job.
The swivel range of -65° / +120° is the figure GF highlights. Tilting as far as +120° in one direction lets the spindle reach under overhangs and into the back faces of a part without a second setup. Both rotary axes use direct torque drives with no mechanical transmission, and GF quotes repeatability within 10 µm for them. Swivel speed is 32 rpm and rotary speed 112 rpm; the linear feed rate is 30 m/min.
The spindle uses GF's OptiCool design to cool the front bearing area, plus a heat barrier cooling loop between the motor and the spindle nose. With 120 Nm on an HSK-A63 taper, roughing and finishing can both run on this machine.
