Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hwacheon MEGAII-100 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hwacheon MEGAII-100 is the smallest of three MEGAII heavy lathes, with a Ø1,000 mm (Ø39.37 in) swing over the bed, 400 mm (15.75 in) of X travel and centre distances from 3,000 to 10,000 mm (118.11 to 393.7 in). Its bigger brothers, the MEGAII-120 and MEGAII-140, share the bed, headstock and tailstock and differ mainly in swing and X stroke.
Against the MEGA+100, the MEGAII-100 is a step up in how hard it can be worked. The MEGA+100 has an 18 in chuck and 22 / 18.5 kW (29.5 / 24.8 hp) with FANUC on a manual tool post. The MEGAII-100 brings a 24 in chuck, 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp), a hydraulic 4-way square tool post of □200 mm taking □40 mm shanks, and a rated workpiece weight of 8 t (17,637 lb). The bed is 1,000 mm (39.37 in) wide with three ways.
Over the cross slide the table lists the swing as a range, Ø200 ~ Ø700 mm (Ø7.87 ~ Ø27.56 in), without saying what sets the two ends, so confirm the usable diameter over the carriage against your largest part before ordering. Spindle choices are Ø155, Ø255 or Ø320 mm bores, the first two on A2-15 noses and the last on A2-20, with top speeds of 750, 650 and 400 rpm and torque of 941, 1,168 and 1,756 kgf·m (9,228 / 11,454 / 17,220 Nm).
Rapids are 6 m/min (236.22 ipm) in X and in Z up to the 5000 bed, with Z at 5 m/min (196.85 ipm) on longer beds. The control is a FANUC 0i-TF Plus on 220 V, 60 Hz, at 76 to 90 kVA depending on bed length. The machine stands 2,310 mm (90.94 in) high, the lowest of the three sizes, and the table gives no weight.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Swing and X travel. The MEGAII-100 swings Ø1,000 mm (Ø39.37 in) with 400 mm (15.75 in) of X. The MEGAII-120 swings Ø1,200 mm with 500 mm of X, and the MEGAII-140 Ø1,400 mm with 600 mm of X. Spindle, chuck, tool post, bed and tailstock are the same on all three.
02
A 24 in chuck instead of 18 in, 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp) instead of 22 / 18.5 kW (29.5 / 24.8 hp) with FANUC on the MEGA+100, and a hydraulic □200 mm tool post for □40 mm shanks. It also carries a stated workpiece rating of 8 t (17,637 lb).
03
A 4-way square tool post of □200 mm that indexes hydraulically, holding four □40 mm shank tools. Four positions cover a roughing, finishing, grooving and threading set on a shaft, but a part needing more tools needs a manual change.
04
Three bores. Ø155 mm (Ø6.1 in): A2-15, 750 rpm, 941 kgf·m (9,228 Nm). Ø255 mm (Ø10.0 in): A2-15, 650 rpm, 1,168 kgf·m (11,454 Nm). Ø320 mm (Ø12.6 in): A2-20, 400 rpm, 1,756 kgf·m (17,220 Nm). All use a three-step automatic gearbox and 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp).
