Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hwacheon MEGAII-120 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hwacheon MEGAII-120 is the middle size of the MEGAII heavy lathe series: Ø1,200 mm (Ø47.24 in) over the bed, 500 mm (19.69 in) of X travel and a rated workpiece weight of 8 t (17,637 lb), on centre distances of 3,000 to 10,000 mm (118.11 to 393.7 in).
The decision that shapes this machine most is the spindle bore, because it sets speed and torque together. The Ø155 mm (Ø6.1 in) bore runs on an A2-15 nose to 750 rpm with 941 kgf·m (9,228 Nm). The Ø255 mm (Ø10.0 in) bore, also A2-15, drops to 650 rpm and rises to 1,168 kgf·m (11,454 Nm). The Ø320 mm (Ø12.6 in) bore needs an A2-20 nose and is limited to 400 rpm but delivers 1,756 kgf·m (17,220 Nm). All three share a 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp) motor and a three-step automatic gearbox, so the extra torque of the large bore comes from gearing, not from more power. For solid forgings the Ø155 mm spindle is usually enough; pipe and tube buyers pick the bore that passes their stock.
It is worth comparing with the MEGA+120, which has the same Ø1,200 mm (Ø47.24 in) swing. The MEGA+120 has more X travel, 625 mm (24.61 in), but an 18 in chuck, a manual tool post and beds only up to 6,000 mm (236.22 in). The MEGAII-120 trades X stroke for a 24 in chuck, a hydraulic □200 mm tool post taking □40 mm shanks and a 10,000 mm bed option.
The swing over the cross slide is listed as Ø200 ~ Ø900 mm (Ø7.87 ~ Ø35.43 in). The control is a FANUC 0i-TF Plus, the machine is 2,410 mm (94.88 in) high and 3,400 mm (133.86 in) wide, and the length runs from 7,992 to 14,992 mm (314.65 to 590.24 in) with the bed.
