Hwacheon M1-5AX

The Hwacheon M1-5AX is the smallest of Hwacheon's M-series five-axis machines: a Ø300 mm (Ø11.8 in) rotary table rated for 200 kg (441 lb), inside 750 mm (29.5 in) of X, 500 mm (19.7 in) of Y and 450 mm (17.7 in) of Z travel. It is built for small, high-speed work, and both of its spindles start at 20,000 rpm.

The two spindle versions are quite different machines. The 20K runs to 20,000 rpm with a 37 / 18.5 kW (49.6 / 24.8 hp) rating on Ø70 mm (Ø2.8 in) bearings and takes BBT-40 holders, with CAT-40 as an option. The 32K runs to 32,000 rpm on Ø45 mm (Ø1.8 in) bearings, is rated 18.5 / 13 kW (24.8 / 17.4 hp) and takes HSK-E40. That makes the 32K a spindle for small end mills, engraving-size tools and fine finishing, while the 20K keeps enough power for general work in a 40-taper holder. Both are built-in motor spindles with oil-jet lubrication and jacket cooling.

The table carries eight radial T-slots, 14 mm wide at 80 mm pitch. The B axis covers -30° to +110° and C a full 360°. Spindle nose to table runs from 80 to 530 mm (3.1 to 20.9 in), so the spindle can come close to a low part on the table. All three linear axes rapid at 36 m/min (1,417 ipm). For a larger table in the same family, the M2-5AX moves to Ø500 mm (Ø19.7 in) and 300 kg (661 lb).

Tools are picked by memory random from a 30-pocket magazine, with 40 or 60 as options. A tool can be Ø75 mm (Ø3.0 in) with neighbours in place or Ø150 mm (Ø5.9 in) with the adjacent pockets empty, up to 300 mm (11.8 in) long and 8 kg (18 lb). The control is HARMONY (Fanuc 31i-B5 Plus). The standard machine stands on 2,340 x 3,132 mm (92.1 x 123.3 in), but the footprint with accessories grows to 3,341 x 4,515 mm (131.5 x 177.8 in); it is 3,161 mm (124.4 in) high and weighs 9,500 kg (20,944 lb). It needs 65 kVA, air at 0.5-0.7 MPa and 1,100 NL/min, and has a 350 L coolant tank.
