Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hwacheon M4-5AX that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hwacheon M4-5AX is the 50-taper machine of the M-series: a five-axis machining center with BBT-50 spindles, a Ø800 x 630 mm (Ø31.5 x 24.8 in) table rated for 1,200 kg (2,646 lb), and 950 mm (37.4 in) of X, 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Y and 650 mm (25.6 in) of Z travel. The table swings through ±120° on A and turns 360° on C.
Where the smaller M-series machines chase spindle speed, the M4 is set up for cutting load. The 8K spindle is the high-torque option, rated 55 / 30 kW (73.8 / 40.2 hp) at up to 8,000 rpm, on Ø100 mm (Ø3.9 in) bearings that can be upgraded to Ø120 mm. The 12K spindle reaches 12,000 rpm at 30 / 25 kW (40.2 / 33.5 hp). BBT-50 is standard, with CAT-50, HSK-A100 and SK-50 as options. A buyer choosing between the two should weigh the 8K's higher power rating against the 12K's higher speed for finishing and smaller cutters.
The tool limits follow from the larger taper. Tools can be 400 mm (15.7 in) long and 20 kg (44 lb), against 320 mm (12.6 in) and 8 kg (18 lb) on the 40-taper M3-5AX. The magazine holds 30 tools, with a 60-tool option, and works on fixed address rather than memory random, so each tool returns to its own pocket. The pull stud is a 90° type, which is worth checking against existing holders before the machine arrives.
Rapids are 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) on X and Y and 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) on Z; A rapids at 20 rpm and C at 30 rpm. Spindle nose to table runs from 180 to 830 mm (7.1 to 32.7 in), and the table has five 18 mm T-slots at 100 mm pitch. The control is a Fanuc 31i-B5. The installation is substantial: 125 kVA, a 550 L coolant tank, 4,252 mm (167.4 in) of height and a footprint of 5,126 x 6,336 mm (201.8 x 249.4 in), or 5,126 x 6,570 mm (201.8 x 258.7 in) with the 60-tool magazine. The machine weighs 28,000 kg (61,729 lb), or 28,500 kg (62,831 lb) with 60 tools.
