Overview
The Hwacheon D2-5AX is a high-productivity five-axis vertical machining centre for parts machining, and the smaller of the two machines in Hwacheon's D series (with the D3-5AX). Hwacheon describes it as a mid-size five-axis machine that is easy to automate: its structure is designed for fast acceleration and cycle times, and it leaves the front and right sides open for a robot or pallet system, making it suited to high-volume production.
Travels are 650 x 500 x 500 mm, with a trunnion that tilts the B axis from -30 to +110 degrees and rotates the C axis a full 360 degrees on a 600 mm table (400 mm and 500 mm tables are optional) rated for 500 kgf. Hwacheon quotes 0.0001 degree resolution on the rotary table and a hydraulic table clamp for stable roughing. A gantry-type frame with linear guides on all axes gives 36/30/30 m/min rapid traverse.
The in-house built #40 spindle comes in four versions: 12,000 rpm as standard (250 Nm) and 14,000, 20,000 and 24,000 rpm options, all at 37 kW peak. Spindle and frame cooling are used to control thermal growth. Tool magazines hold 30 tools as standard, with 40, 60 and 120 tools available.
Control is a Fanuc 0i-MF Plus, or a Fanuc 31i-B5 Plus option, with Hwacheon's HARMONY interface and HRCC II rotary-centre optimisation for five-axis accuracy. Automation options include a 20-pallet AWC and the HMP-100 multi-pallet system. The machine occupies 3,970 x 3,523 mm and weighs 11,500 kgf.
