Overview

The HNK HPM-35M (35x80) combines the 3,500 mm wide five-face bridge with 8,250 mm (324.8 in) of X travel. Its table, 3,500 x 8,000 mm (137.8 x 315.0 in), is rated at 50,000 kg (110,229 lb).

How is an eight-metre five-face machine used? Rarely on one eight-metre part. More often two workpieces are set on the table, and while one is being cut the other is measured, shimmed or changed. That only works if the load rating allows both at once, and fifty tonnes gives real room for it. The same table on the die and mold HPM-35H (35x80) is rated at 30,000 kg (66,138 lb).

Across the machine, the columns are 4,500 mm (177.2 in) apart and Y travel is 5,500 mm (216.5 in). Vertically, the crossrail moves 2,800 mm (110.2 in) and the 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in) ram 1,000 mm (39.4 in), with 1,200 mm (47.2 in) in braces.

The spindle is Ø130 mm (5.1 in) with ISO No.50 taper. HNK lists three motors, 22/26, 30/37 and 37/45 kW (49.6/60.3 hp), cont/30min, and no clean speed figure. Controls are Fanuc 31i-B and Siemens 840D.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 8,250 mm (324.8 in) of X on a 3,500 mm (137.8 in) wide table
  • 50,000 kg (110,229 lb) rating allows two heavy set-ups
  • 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of W-axis travel
  • Y travel of 5,500 mm (216.5 in)

Limitations

  • Motor choice tops out at 37/45 kW (49.6/60.3 hp)
  • Spindle speed missing from the usable data
  • Table load is shared with the shorter 35x60

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the table size and load of the HPM-35M (35x80)?

3,500 x 8,000 mm (137.8 x 315.0 in) and 50,000 kg (110,229 lb). X travel is 8,250 mm (324.8 in), slightly longer than the table.

02 How does the HPM-35M (35x80) compare with the HPM-40M (40x80)?

The HPM-40M (40x80) is 4,000 mm wide, has 5,000 mm (196.9 in) between columns, 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of Y and carries 60,000 kg (132,275 lb). X travel, crossrail travel, ram and spindle are the same as on the HPM-35M (35x80).

03 What is the Z travel of the HPM-35M (35x80)?

1,000 mm (39.4 in), with 1,200 mm (47.2 in) in braces, in a 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in) ram. The crossrail gives a further 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of vertical adjustment.

04 Which control is standard on the HPM-35M (35x80)?

The table does not single one out. It lists Fanuc 31i-B and Siemens 840D side by side, as it does for every model in the HPM-M series.
