Price estimate
We do not have a price for the HNK HGH-2 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The HNK HGH-2 is a compact 6-axis CNC gear hobbing machine for automobile parts. It takes workpieces up to Ø200 mm (7.9 in) and 50 kg (110 lb), cuts up to module M5, and runs its hob at up to 1,500 rpm.
That hob speed is the figure to notice. HNK's large HGH hobbers stop at a few hundred rpm; this one is built for small carbide or coated hobs cutting car transmission gears, pump gears and splined shafts at production rates. The hob arbor taper is BT40, and the hob can be up to Ø180 mm (7.1 in) in diameter and 190 mm (7.5 in) long. Hob shift travel (Y) is 170 mm (6.7 in), which spreads wear along the hob between regrinds.
The table lists the axes controlled by CNC as 6: X, Y, Z, A, B and C. X is the travel from table centre to hob centre, 220 mm (8.7 in). Z is the vertical working range, 350 mm (13.8 in), long enough for shaft-type parts. A is the hob swivel, -45 to +45 degrees. B is the hob spindle and C the Ø240 mm (9.4 in) table.
Hob spindle motor power is 12 kW (16.1 hp), with 16 kW (21.5 hp) in braces; the row label marks the braced figure as an option. The control is Siemens 840D. Nothing is published about loading, deburring or dry cutting, so ask.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Workpieces up to Ø200 mm (7.9 in) in diameter and 50 kg (110 lb), up to module M5. The table is Ø240 mm (9.4 in) and the vertical working range 350 mm (13.8 in).
02
Up to 1,500 rpm on the B-axis. The larger HGH-5 is limited to 400 rpm, so the HGH-2 is the high-speed machine of the pair. Hob spindle power is 12 kW (16.1 hp), or 16 kW (21.5 hp) as an option.
03
Hobs up to Ø180 mm (7.1 in) in diameter and 190 mm (7.5 in) long on a BT40 arbor taper. The hob swivels from -45 to +45 degrees and shifts 170 mm (6.7 in) along the Y-axis.
04
HNK lists 6 axes controlled by CNC: X, Y, Z, A, B and C. That is the full set for hobbing spur and helical gears with hob shift, under a Siemens 840D control.
