Price estimate
We do not have a price for the HNK HGH-5 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
With a BT50 hob arbor and an 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) hob spindle, the HNK HGH-5 is the heavier of HNK's two gear hobbing machines for automobile parts. It cuts gears up to Ø500 mm (19.7 in) and module M12 on workpieces of up to 80 kg (176 lb).
Everything about it is scaled for bigger teeth and lower speed. Hob speed tops out at 400 rpm. The hob may be up to Ø300 mm (11.8 in) in diameter and 300 mm (11.8 in) long, and it shifts 250 mm (9.8 in) along Y. Module 12 is commercial-vehicle and off-highway territory: truck gearbox and axle gears, tractor final drives, planetary gears for wheel hubs.
One limit is tighter than on the small machine. The hob swivel angle is -35 to +35 degrees, so high-helix gears are outside its range. Vertical working range (Z) is 400 mm (15.7 in), and the travel from table centre to hob centre (X) is 500 mm (19.7 in). The table measures Ø450 mm (17.7 in).
Note the weight figure against the diameter. An 80 kg limit on a Ø500 mm part means ring-shaped or thin blanks; a solid steel disc of that diameter with any real face width is heavier. HNK lists 6 CNC axes (X, Y, Z, A, B, C) and a Siemens 840D control. Unlike the HGH-2, this model shows a single motor rating with no braced option.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The HGH-5 cuts up to Ø500 mm (19.7 in) and module M12 at up to 400 rpm on a BT50 arbor with 18.5 kW (24.8 hp). The HGH-2 cuts up to Ø200 mm (7.9 in) and module M5 at up to 1,500 rpm on BT40.
02
The hob swivel angle on the A-axis is -35 to +35 degrees. The usable helix angle also depends on the hob's own lead angle, so check high-helix gears with HNK.
03
80 kg (176 lb), on a Ø450 mm (17.7 in) table. The maximum workpiece diameter is Ø500 mm (19.7 in), so the weight limit, not the diameter, is usually what rules a part out.
04
X, from table centre to hob centre, is 500 mm (19.7 in). Y, the hob shift, is 250 mm (9.8 in). Z, the vertical working range, is 400 mm (15.7 in).
