Price estimate
We do not have a price for the HNK HGH-80 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The HNK HGH-80 is the largest gear hobbing machine HNK lists and the only one in the series with a bigger motor. Its external cutter head is driven by 70 kW (93.9 hp), and it hobs up to 40M, with 50M in the form milling row. Maximum gear diameter is Ø8,000 mm (315.0 in).
The three smaller HGH models all run a 52 kW (69.7 hp) head, as on the HGH-60. The extra power here goes with the coarser pitch: a module 40 tooth space is far larger in cross-section than a module 30 one, and it has to be removed at the same 250 rpm hob speed limit. Hob dimensions do not change, at up to Ø500 mm (19.7 in) by 700 mm (27.6 in).
The table is Ø4,000 mm (157.5 in) and carries 130,000 kg (286,596 lb). Column travel (X) reaches 3,100 mm (122.0 in). Vertical travel of the hob head (Z) is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and tangential travel (Y) 450 mm (17.7 in), both as on the HGH-60.
HNK's description claims the biggest cutting capacity in table and swing size, and speaks of huge gears for large-sized turning tables. At eight metres that means the main slewing gears of offshore cranes, excavators, tunnel-boring machines and the largest wind-turbine bearings. The hob head swivels -45 to +45 degrees, the table indexes 0 to 360 degrees, and the control is Siemens 840D.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 70 kW (93.9 hp) cutter head motor, the highest in the series
- Hobbing to module 40 and form milling to module 50
- Gears up to Ø8,000 mm (315.0 in)
- 130,000 kg (286,596 lb) on a Ø4,000 mm (157.5 in) table
Limitations
- Vertical travel of 2,000 mm (78.7 in) is no more than on the HGH-60
- Hob diameter still limited to Ø500 mm (19.7 in)
- Hob speed limited to 250 rpm, as on the smaller models

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Against the HGH-60 it has a 70 kW (93.9 hp) motor instead of 52 kW (69.7 hp), 40M hobbing instead of 30M, a Ø4,000 mm (157.5 in) table instead of Ø3,000 mm (118.1 in) and gears up to Ø8,000 mm (315.0 in). Hob size and the Y and Z travels are the same on both.
02
40M with a gear hob and 50M in the row HNK labels From Milling. HNK's text refers to a hobbing cutter with involute inserts alongside a high speed steel hobber.
03
130,000 kg (286,596 lb). The table is Ø4,000 mm (157.5 in), half the maximum gear diameter, so the largest rings need support beyond the table edge.
04
The hob head swivels on the A-axis from -45 to +45 degrees and the table is a C-axis indexing through 0 to 360 degrees under Siemens 840D control. That is the axis set helical hobbing uses, though HNK gives no helix angle limit as such.
