Overview

A fixed table of 10,000 x 5,000 mm (393.7 x 196.9 in), 10,000 mm (393.7 in) of X travel and 6,500 mm (255.9 in) of Y: the Hartford MCW-10650 is the ten-metre model of the wide MCW cross section.

Machines of this size are rarely bought for top-face milling alone, and Hartford's description of the MCW gives a lot of space to heads. It can operate with an auto universal head, a 90 degree head and an extension head. A full automatic head changer is provided with a protective cover and an independent head magazine, a hydraulic cylinder makes the changeover fast, and each magazine has its own moving door that opens only during a head change to keep debris off the heads. Additional head magazines are available.

Angular positioning is in steps: Hartford gives A/C axis indexing of 1 degree for its automatic angular head options. That is indexing, suited to machining on inclined and side planes, and it should not be read as continuous five-axis contouring.

The machine otherwise follows the series table. Z travel is 1,000 mm with 1,200 and 1,400 mm options, W travel 1,800 mm or 2,100 mm, table load 3,000 kg/m², and the #50 spindle runs up to 8,000 rpm as a gear head or 10,000 rpm as a hybrid.
