Overview

The Hartford MCW-18650 has an 18,000 x 5,000 mm (708.7 x 196.9 in) fixed table, 18,000 mm (708.7 in) of X travel and 6,500 mm (255.9 in) of Y travel. It is the second-largest model of the MCW moving-column series.

Hartford offers a set of automatic angular heads for the series and gives their positioning as A/C axis indexing of 1 degree. With an indexing head the spindle can be set to face any side of a part, or tilted to an inclined plane, and then cuts with the three linear axes. On an eighteen-metre workpiece that turns many separate setups into one.

Around the heads sits a changer designed to keep them clean. Hartford describes a full automatic head changer with protective cover, an independent head magazine with its own moving door, and a hydraulic cylinder for fast changeover. More head magazines can be added.

Everything else is as on the rest of the series: table load 3,000 kg/m², Z travel 1,000 mm with 1,200 and 1,400 mm optional, W travel 1,800 mm or 2,100 mm, a #50 gear head at 6,000 or 8,000 rpm or a 10,000 rpm hybrid, 18.5 / 22 kW or 30 / 35 kW, and 40 or 62 tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What indexing do the heads of the MCW-18650 have?

Hartford states A/C axis indexing of 1 degree for the automatic angular head options. The heads are positioned at an angle and then the cut is made with the linear axes.

02 How are heads changed on the MCW-18650?

By a full automatic head changer with a protective cover and an independent head magazine. A hydraulic cylinder performs the changeover, and each magazine has a moving door that opens only during the change to keep debris away from the heads.

03 What are the MCW-18650 table and travels?

Table 18,000 x 5,000 mm (708.7 x 196.9 in). X 18,000 mm, Y 6,500 mm (255.9 in), Z 1,000 mm, W 1,800 mm. Options extend Z to 1,200 or 1,400 mm and W to 2,100 mm.

04 How does the MCW-18650 relate to the MCW-20650?

The MCW-20650 is the longest model, with 20,000 mm (787.4 in) of X travel and a 20,000 x 5,000 mm (787.4 x 196.9 in) table. Y, Z and W travels are identical.
