Overview

A 1200 x 600 mm table carrying 800 kg (1,764 lb) is the reason to pick the Emco Emcomill 1100 over its smaller sibling. This 3-axis vertical machining centre travels 1,100 mm (43.3 in) in X and 600 mm (23.6 in) in both Y and Z, enough for plates, long fixtures with several vises, and welded or cast parts of some weight.

The extra mass shows in the axis figures. Feed force rises to 10,000 N (2,248 lbf), while rapids are 36/36/36 m/min, a little below the Emcomill 800. Acceleration is the same 5 m/s2. The balance has shifted from speed toward pushing a loaded table.

Spindle and magazine are shared with the smaller model: direct drive, SK40, 50 – 12000 rpm, 13.6 kW (S6) and 95 Nm (S6), with 30 tool stations and a tool change of 2.5 s (tool to tool). On a table this size the spindle is the limit for heavy stock removal. Large-area face milling in steel has to be done with modest cutter diameters and feeds, and the 8 kg (18 lb) tool weight limit applies too.

Clearance from spindle nose to table is 120 / 720 mm. The machine stands 3,245 mm (127.8 in) high on an installation area of 2800 x 2245 mm (W x D, without chip conveyor, with tank) and weighs 6,500 kg (14,330 lb) as a basic machine. It runs on the Siemens 828D with ShopMill.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1200 x 600 mm table rated for 800 kg (1,764 lb)
  • Feed force of 10,000 N (2,248 lbf) in X, Y and Z
  • 1,100 mm (43.3 in) of X travel with 600 mm (23.6 in) of Y
  • Direct-drive spindle with 50 – 12000 rpm
  • Compact installation area of 2800 x 2245 mm (W x D, without chip conveyor, with tank) for the travel

Limitations

  • Same 13.6 kW (S6), 95 Nm (S6) spindle as the Emcomill 800 despite the larger table
  • Rapids of 36/36/36 m/min are slower than the smaller model
  • Tool weight is limited to 8 kg (18 lb)
  • Overall height of 3,245 mm (127.8 in) needs checking against the building

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How much weight can the Emcomill 1100 table take?

The maximum table load is 800 kg (1,764 lb) on a table of 1200 x 600 mm. The T-slots are listed as 5 x 18 x 100 mm (number, width, spacing) and the table surface sits 965 mm (38.0 in) above the floor.

02 What is the difference between the Emcomill 1100 and the Emcomill 800?

The Emcomill 800 travels 800 mm (31.5 in) in X with a 600 kg (1,323 lb) table load and rapids of 42/42/42 m/min. The Emcomill 1100 travels 1,100 mm (43.3 in), carries 800 kg (1,764 lb) and has rapids of 36/36/36 m/min. The spindle and tool changer are the same.

03 What spindle and tool changer does it have?

A direct-drive SK40 spindle with 50 – 12000 rpm, 13.6 kW (S6) and 95 Nm (S6), and a 30-station tool changer with a tool-to-tool time of 2.5 s (tool to tool). Tools may be up to 76 mm (3.0 in) in diameter and 300 mm (11.8 in) long.

04 Which control does the Emcomill 1100 run?

The Siemens 828D with ShopMill, shown on a 15-inch colour monitor. Emco lists three axes for the basic machine.
