Overview

Hartford gives the HSA-320EAY a 3,000 x 1,800 mm (118.1 x 70.9 in) table and 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of Y travel. The first figure says long, narrow parts; the second says those parts are meant to be machined along their sides. X travel is 3,000 mm (118.1 in) and the table carries 10,000 kg (22,046 lb).

It is a five-face double-column machine. The top of the part is cut with the vertical #50 spindle, and for the four sides the machine exchanges angular heads automatically from a switching head compartment, combined with vertical and horizontal tool change. Hartford's angular heads are held by four pull bolts.

Compared with the HSA-320EA, which has 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of Y, nothing else in the table changes. The choice between the two is simply whether side-face work across the full table width is part of the job. If the parts are narrow enough to leave head room on the EA, the wider gantry buys nothing.

The gear head turns 6,000 rpm, optionally 8,000 rpm, and a 10,000 rpm hybrid spindle is offered. Eleven T-slots hold fixtures. Z travel is 1,000 mm with 1,200 mm optional.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of Y travel for side access on a narrow three-metre table
  • 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) load rating
  • Angular heads with four pull bolts, changed automatically
  • Vertical and horizontal tool change system

Limitations

  • Table width of 1,800 mm; the HSA-323EAY is 2,200 mm wide
  • The long Y travel serves head clearance, not wider parts
  • At three metres, X-axis ballscrew support is an option

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the specifications of the Hartford HSA-320EAY?

X travel 3,000 mm (118.1 in), Y travel 2,800 mm (110.2 in), Z travel 1,000 mm or 1,200 mm. The table is 3,000 x 1,800 mm (118.1 x 70.9 in) for 10,000 kg (22,046 lb), and the spindle taper is #50.

02 Is the HSA-320EAY table larger than the HSA-320EA table?

No. Both tables measure 3,000 x 1,800 mm and both are rated at 10,000 kg. The HSA-320EAY differs by its Y travel of 2,800 mm (110.2 in), compared with 2,000 mm (78.7 in) on the HSA-320EA.

03 How are the angular heads attached on the HSA-320EAY?

Hartford describes an angular head four pull bolt design, and an automated switching head compartment that exchanges heads together with the vertical and horizontal tool change system. The page shows an automatic universal angular head.

04 What magazine does the HSA-320EAY have?

A magazine for 32 tools, with 40 and 60 as options. The shank is BT-50, and CAT-50, DIN-50 and BBT-50 are listed as alternatives for the #50 spindle.
