Overview

Eight metres long, with 3,200 mm (126.0 in) of Y travel: the Hartford HSA-832EA is the version of the long, 2,500 mm wide five-face HSA meant for work on the flanks of a part. Table size is 8,000 x 2,500 mm (315.0 x 98.4 in), X travel 8,000 mm (315.0 in), table load 27,000 kg (59,524 lb).

Its twin is the HSA-828EA, identical in table and rating but with 2,800 mm (110.2 in) of Y. On the 832EA the spindle clears the table on both sides, so rows of holes, slots or pads along an eight-metre beam can be cut with a right-angle head in the same clamping as the top face.

A long X axis puts demands on the drive. Hartford fits direct-coupled servo motors on all three linear axes and supports the X ballscrew as standard on machines above 5 meters. The Z axis, on four linear guideways, is balanced with nitrogen instead of a hydraulic counterweight.

The table gives a #50 spindle in two forms, a gear head at 6,000 rpm or optionally 8,000 rpm and a hybrid at 10,000 rpm. Z travel is 1,000 mm (1,200 mm optional), and the magazine takes 32, 40 or 60 tools.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 3,200 mm (126.0 in) of Y travel on an eight-metre machine
  • 8,000 x 2,500 mm (315.0 x 98.4 in) table rated at 27,000 kg (59,524 lb)
  • Direct-drive servo motors and a supported X-axis ballscrew
  • Nitrogen counterweight on the Z axis

Limitations

  • Table width stays at 2,500 mm; the HSA-836EA is the 3,000 mm wide alternative
  • Whether Y-axis ballscrew support is standard on x32 models is not stated
  • Rating is no higher than the HSA-828EA despite the wider gantry travel

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the HSA-832EA and the HSA-828EA?

Y travel: 3,200 mm (126.0 in) on the HSA-832EA and 2,800 mm (110.2 in) on the HSA-828EA. Table size and load rating are identical, 8,000 x 2,500 mm and 27,000 kg.

02 What are the axis travels of the HSA-832EA?

X is 8,000 mm (315.0 in), Y is 3,200 mm (126.0 in), Z is 1,000 mm with 1,200 mm as an option. The table has thirty-one T-slots along its length.

03 How is the Z axis of the HSA-832EA counterbalanced?

With a nitrogen counterweight system. Hartford states that it reduces the operating noise of the hydraulic tank, lowers oil temperature by 50% and saves more than 20% energy. The axis itself runs on four linear guideways.

04 Is there a wider eight-metre model than the HSA-832EA?

Yes. The HSA-836EA has an 8,000 x 3,000 mm (315.0 x 118.1 in) table, 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of Y travel and a 30,000 kg (66,138 lb) rating.
