Overview

The Hartford Aero-536B is the narrowest of three five-metre models in the Aero range of gantry type 5-faced machining centers. Its table is 5,000 x 3,100 mm (196.9 x 122.0 in), with 5,000 mm (196.9 in) of X travel and 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of Y.

At five metres Hartford offers the Aero in three widths. After this model come the Aero-541B with a 5,000 x 3,600 mm (196.9 x 141.7 in) table and the Aero-546B with 5,000 x 4,100 mm (196.9 x 161.4 in). Nothing else in the tables changes between them, so the right choice is the narrowest machine that holds the widest part.

Every Aero table is rated at 5,000 kg/m². The gear-head spindle is #50 and runs 6,000 rpm, or 8,000 rpm as an option; Z travel is 1,000 mm with 1,200 mm optional.

A buyer who cuts both steel and aluminium should look at the optional spindle. Hartford's i-Tech hybrid unit reaches 10,000 rpm and is described with a built-in motor of up to 35 kW and 600 N-m and a double cooling cycle. That combination of torque and speed in one #50 spindle saves swapping between a gear head for roughing and a faster spindle for finishing.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 5,000 x 3,100 mm (196.9 x 122.0 in) table rated at 5,000 kg/m²
  • Optional i-Tech hybrid spindle: 10,000 rpm, up to 35 kW and 600 N-m
  • Three widths available at this length, so the machine can be matched to the part
  • Automatic head changer with independent head magazine

Limitations

  • Narrowest five-metre Aero; wider parts need the Aero-541B or Aero-546B
  • Base gear head runs 6,000 rpm
  • Hartford's table gives no power figure for the gear head
