Overview
The Haas VF-2YT is an extended-Y version of the VF-2, stretching the Y-axis from 406 mm (16 in) to 508 mm (20 in) while keeping the same 762 mm (30 in) X-travel and 508 mm (20 in) Z-travel. That extra 102 mm of Y-travel opens up the work envelope significantly for parts that need more depth, and it's paired with a wider 914 x 457 mm (36 x 18 in) table that's 101 mm (4 in) wider than the standard VF-2.
Under the hood, everything else is pure VF-2: the same 22.4 kW (30 hp) inline direct-drive spindle turning at 8,100 RPM, 122 Nm (90 ft-lbf) of torque at 2,000 RPM, and the optional gearbox that pushes torque to 339 Nm (250 ft-lbf) at 450 RPM. Rapids hit 25.4 m/min (1,000 ipm) on all axes, and the standard 20-pocket carousel tool changer delivers the familiar 4.2-second tool-to-tool and 4.5-second chip-to-chip times.
The wider table is the real story here. At 457 mm (18 in) wide versus 356 mm (14 in) on the standard VF-2, you get noticeably more room for dual-vise setups, wider parts, and fixtures that need more lateral space. Table load capacity remains the same at 1,361 kg (3,000 lb). The machine weighs 3,539 kg (7,800 lb), the same as the standard VF-2, which suggests the extended Y comes from column and saddle design changes rather than added mass.
At a base price of around $79,000, the VF-2YT costs about $12,000-$13,000 more than a standard VF-2. For shops that regularly fight Y-axis limitations on the VF-2, that premium pays for itself quickly in reduced setup time and fewer operations. The Haas NGC control, taper options (CT40 or BT40), and full range of VF-series options carry over unchanged. Specs sourced from Haas Automation published data.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 508 mm (20 in) Y-travel gives 25% more depth than the standard VF-2's 406 mm (16 in)
- 914 x 457 mm (36 x 18 in) table is 101 mm wider, providing more room for dual-vise and wider fixture setups
- Same 30 hp spindle, rapids, and control as the standard VF-2 — no compromise on cutting performance
- Base price around $79K is a modest premium over the standard VF-2 for significantly more versatility
- 1,361 kg (3,000 lb) table load handles heavy fixtures and 4th-axis rotary setups
- Full VF-series option compatibility including TSC, probing, SMTC upgrades, and high-speed machining
Limitations
- 8,100 RPM spindle limits high-speed aluminum finishing — consider the VF-2SS for aluminum-heavy shops
- Standard carousel tool changer at 4.5 sec chip-to-chip is slower than arm-type changers on premium machines
- 3,539 kg (7,800 lb) weight is identical to standard VF-2, meaning the extended Y doesn't add rigidity
- The $12K+ premium over a standard VF-2 is hard to justify if your parts rarely exceed 406 mm in Y
- Only CT40 and BT40 taper options — no HSK-A63 like the standard VF-2

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Base price starts around $79,000. With through-spindle coolant, probing, and other common options, expect $90,000-$100,000. That's about $12,000-$13,000 more than a standard VF-2.
02
The VF-2YT extends Y-axis travel from 406 mm to 508 mm and widens the table from 356 mm to 457 mm. Everything else is identical: X and Z travel, spindle, rapids, tool changer, control, and weight. The YT is the better choice if you regularly need more than 16 inches of Y-travel.
03
The VF-2YT is slightly larger front-to-back due to the extended Y-axis. Shipping dimensions are 269 x 257 x 257 cm versus 257 x 251 x 257 cm for the standard VF-2. Check your door clearances before ordering.
04
No. The extended Y-axis requires a different saddle and column casting. This is a factory-only configuration. If you need more Y-travel on an existing VF-2, your only option is to trade up.
05
The VF-3 offers 1016 x 508 x 635 mm travel (40 x 20 x 25 in) and a much larger table, but it also has a bigger footprint and weighs more. If you primarily need more Y-travel but not more X or Z, the VF-2YT is the more space-efficient choice. If you need more travel across all axes, step up to the VF-3.
